The day Yamagata Prefecture was founded

On August 21, 1876 , the three prefectures of Yamagata, Okitama, and Tsuruoka merged to form the present-day Yamagata Prefecture .
The name of the prefecture, "Yamagata," is said to come from a description in the dictionary "Wamyo Ruijusho," created in the mid-Heian period, that the area south of present-day Yamagata City was called "Yamagata-go."

Fukushima Prefectural Day

On August 21, 1876 (Meiji 9) , the three former prefectures of Fukushima, Iwasaki, and Wakamatsu merged to form Fukushima Prefecture .
For this reason, the Fukushima Prefectural Day Ordinance was enacted in 1997 (Heisei 9) to deepen understanding of and foster love for the local area, while encouraging the people of the prefecture to come together to build a more prosperous Fukushima Prefecture and pass it on to the next generation
The prefecture's name comes from Fukushima Town, where the prefectural office was located at the time of the merger, and it was the most populous prefecture in Tohoku until it was overtaken by Miyagi Prefecture in 1980

Women's University Student Day (Japan's first female university student was born at what is now Tohoku University)

During the Meiji period, universities were positioned as educational institutions for men who had graduated from high school, and women were not allowed to enter through the regular process
In the midst of this, Tohoku Imperial University (now Tohoku University), which had just opened in 1911 (Meiji 44), expanded admission eligibility to include people other than high school graduates in order to secure a sufficient number of students. In August 1913 (Taisho 2), the university decided to accept three female students (Chika Kuroda and Ume Tange from the Department of Chemistry, and Raku Makita from the Department of Mathematics), giving birth to Japan's first "female university students."
For this reason, August 21st is registered as "Women's College Student Day"
