a physician and bacteriologist,Hideyo Noguchi,is known for his research on yellow fever and syphilis as a researcher at the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research in the United States. He was bornNovember 9, 1876 (Meiji 9)in Mitsuwa Village, Yama District, Fukushima Prefecture (present-day Inawashiro Town, Yama District), as the eldest son of Sayosuke Noguchi and Shika Noguchi.

He contracted yellow fever while researching it and died on May 21, 1928 (Showa 3) at the age of 51 in Accra, British Gold Coast (now the Republic of Ghana)
