October 9th is designated as "Sendai Beef Day" by the Sendai Beef Brand Promotion Council , based on the wordplay of 1009 (senkyu) = Sen (仙) and Gyu (牛)

"Sendai Beef"is a brand name given only to the highest-grade (A5 and B5) Wagyu beef produced in Miyagi Prefecture, and on this day, PR campaigns and events are held in various locations throughout Miyagi Prefecture.
