Did you know that there once existed a god of good fortune in Sendai? His name is "Sendai Shiro"

Sendai Shiro's personality

It is said that Sendai Shiro was born in the late Edo period "Yuguroshita" in the center of modern day Sendai city. For this reason, it was also known as Yurashishita Shiro

When I was seven years old, I fell on the Hirose River and became unconscious, and my intelligence developed slowed down, but because of his good personality, he was loved by everyone and even received food at restaurants I stopped by.

Sendai Shiro, who wandered around the city every day and loved to please people, sweeps the front of the store without his permission when a broom was leaning against the storefront, and when he found a bucket filled with water and a ladle, he even sprinkled water.

Then, at some point, rumors began to arise that the shop where Shiro cleaned and sprinkled water suddenly would be booming.

This is said that Sendai Shiro has become pleased by everyone as the "living god of fortune."

He is also famous for his love of railways, and when Sendai Station on the Tohoku Main Line opened in 1887, he visited the station every day, receiving tickets from people and then took the train to Shiraishi City, Fukushima Prefecture, and Yamagata Prefecture.

Happiness brought by Shiro Sendai

It is said that the store that Sendai Shiro visited had prosperous business. On the other hand, there is a legend that says that the store that bullied Sendai Shiro went into ruin.

Although Sendai Shiro had an honest personality, he would not go to a restaurant he did not like, no matter how generous the invitations were. Sendai Shiro, loved by everyone, is said to have died at the age of 47 in Sukagawa, Fukushima Prefecture around 1902 (Meiji 35). However, it is not clear, and although he was a famous person at the time, the tomb is unknown.

Moreover there were even witnesses even after the Showa era , so perhaps he was a god.

It has continued to be talked about in Sendai as a symbol of fortune.
