The Fujita Kyohei Glass Art Museum is run by Ichinobo, a company that develops tourism and operates hot spring inns in Miyagi Prefecture.

What is the appeal of Kyohei Fujita? What kind of glass works has he created?

Kyohei Fujita is one of Japan's leading glass artists.
He initially studied metal engraving at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, but switched to glass art midway through his studies.

Shortly after joining Iwata Glass Crafts, he went independent.
He transformed decorative boxes for Japanese accessories into glass works by mixing the colored glass he learned in Italy with gold leaf, bringing traditional Japanese aesthetics to fruition in the field of glass crafts.

This work, "Decorative Box," is particularly highly regarded in Europe as a modern Rimpa work, due to its elegant decorative beauty, which is a part of the ancient Japanese Rinpa school

After that, Kyohei Fujita went to Italy and pioneered new horizons on the island of Murano in Venice,
creating the unique "Fujita Canna" vase, which is a perfect example of the traditional Venetian canna pattern.

Explanation of the appeal of the Glass Museum

It's just a 20-minute walk from JR Matsushima Station.
The glass art museum is attached to Hotel Ichinobo.
You can enter directly from the hotel, but we recommend entering through the entrance.

The road leading to the "World of Glass Beauty" is a gateway to something extraordinary.
The "Ginkakuji Fence Road," lined with approximately 120 pine trees, each 4 meters high, feels like a road to another world.

The blue hall you walk through after checking in also creates the feeling of being transported to another world.

In the first exhibition room you can see "Decorative Boxes," and in the second exhibition room you can see works from Murano Island, including "Fujita's Canna," and all of these works are photographed .

Take as many beautiful photos as you like!

After passing through the second exhibition room, there is a corridor leading to the tea room.
The tea room, "Kafuan," also serves as the third exhibition room, where you can see tea ceremony utensils made of glass.

Additionally, from the observation terrace in front of the teahouse, you can view the floating garden, which features a distinctive glass chapel.
Both the garden seen from the observation terrace and the view of Matsushima from the teahouse are photogenic views that can only be seen here, so this is a recommended photo spot.

After enjoying the glass artworks and the scenery, you can choose a souvenir at the museum shop.
You can buy a souvenir for yourself to remind you of the extraordinary experience you had, or buy a souvenir for someone to share the extraordinary experience with. A unique Matsushima souvenir is sure to please!
