Have you ever crossed Fukuura Bridge in Matsushima? From today on, I personally and wholeheartedly recommend it! [Miyagi Prefecture]
table of contents
Have you ever crossed Fukuura Bridge in Matsushima? Actually, I was born and raised in Miyagi Prefecture, but I have never crossed Fukuura Bridge
Whenever I went sightseeing in Matsushima, I would always look at the bridge from a distance and decide, "I'll go there someday, so I don't need to cross today," and never cross it
This was previously posted
When I went to Matsushima to do an interview, I was alone and had some free time, so I thought, "If I'm going to cross, today might be the day," and so I went alone to Fukuura Island, just beyond Fukuura Bridge, and I'd like to share my story, honest thoughts, and reactions with you
What is Fukuura Bridge?

Fukuura Bridge was built in 1967 as the first toll bridge in Miyagi Prefecture. It is a pedestrian-only bridge that crosses to Fukuura Island, and is 252 meters long. The vermilion-painted bridge is also known as the "Encounter Bridge."
To cross Fukuura Bridge, you need to pay a toll at the cafe "Bayland" on the mainland side
Adults (high school students and above): 200 yen / Children (elementary and junior high school students): 100 yen
The prices are relatively low, making it a convenient place to visit
It is also close to Matsushima Coast Central Square and is a popular tourist spot when visiting Matsushima
What's beyond Fukuura Bridge?

After crossing the 252m-long Fukuura Bridge, you will arrive at Fukuura Island, the entire island of which is designated as a prefectural natural park
This was my first time crossing, and I only knew this was a prefectural natural park, so I was surprised to see how well maintained it was

Until now, I had thought, "There's nothing on the other side of the bridge anyway, right?"
There are tea shops, a multipurpose plaza, and beautiful scenery, but that's not all. The island is home to over 130 species of trees and 200 species of wild plants, including those at the northern limit of temperate and subtropical plants
"This whole island is like a theme park!"
That's my honest impression

There are many places to see the view, but the observation deck is recommended!

There are many places on the island where you can see the scenery
Of course, all the spots on the island offer spectacular views, but the observation deck is the best
The observation deck is about a 15-minute walk from the island. It's located on the back side of the island entrance, so you can see the Matsushima Archipelago from the very center! The other islands are impressive, and it's a place where you can see a unique view, even among Matsushima's scenic spots
It's spacious! A multipurpose space for luxurious time

I think everyone will be surprised at the size of the multi-purpose plaza on the island
Simply put, it seems like baseball and soccer games could be played with ease
What's more, the square is filled with flower beds filled with various kinds of flowers, and depending on the season, you can relax on the small beach in front of you while admiring the beautiful flowers, making it a truly luxurious place to spend time
It is easy to see why Fukuura Island is blessed with a diverse topography
My personal recommended spots

Here I would like to tell you about some spots that I personally enjoyed
The place is located just past the stairs to the observation deck
I've forgotten the name, but it's a small cape that's a great spot for taking photos

The scaffolding is made of large stones so you need to be careful, but it's definitely worth the visit
Please be sure to visit
summary
This time, I crossed Fukuura Bridge for the first time in my life and went to Fukuura Island, which is like a theme park with a diverse ecosystem of topography and diverse plants
Moreover, the scenery is unparalleled, being one of the Three Most Viewed Places in Japan. As I mentioned earlier, the scenery really does "seeing the Matsushima Islands from within the Matsushima Islands .
I thought to myself, "Next time, I'm sure everyone will be happy if we come to Matsushima for a family trip just to see Fukuura Island."
