Anniversary of Munakata Shiko's death (Aomori Prefecture)

Munakata Shiko, a printmaker from Aomori City, Aomori Prefecture, was born on September 5, 1903, as the third son of swordsmiths Munakata Kokichi and Sada, who had 15 siblings (nine boys and six girls).

He called his prints "woodblock prints" and consistently created works that made the most of the characteristics of woodblock prints, making him a world-renowned woodblock artist and one of the great figures representing Aomori Prefecture

He died of liver cancer at his home in Tokyo on September 13, 1975
