a printmaker from Aomori City, Aomori Prefecture,Shiko Munakata,was born on September 5, 1903, as the third son of fifteen children (nine sons and six daughters) of Kokichi and Sada Munakata, who were swordsmiths.

He called his prints "woodblock prints" and consistently created works that made the most of the characteristics of woodblock prints, making him a world-renowned woodblock artist and one of the great figures representing Aomori Prefecture
