Anniversary of Munakata Shiko's death (Aomori Prefecture)

Shiko Munakata, a printmaker from Aomori City, Aomori Prefecture, was born on September 5, 1903, as the third son of fifteen children (nine sons and six daughters) of Kokichi and Sada Munakata, who were swordsmiths.

He called his prints "woodblock prints" and consistently created works that made the most of the characteristics of woodblock prints, making him a world-renowned woodblock artist and one of the great figures representing Aomori Prefecture

He died of liver cancer at his home in Tokyo on September 13, 1975 (Showa 50)
