The day the Tohoku Shinkansen (between Morioka and Hachinohe) opened

On December 1, 2002 , the Tohoku Shinkansen opened its approximately 97km section between Morioka Station and Hachinohe Station, marking the first time the Shinkansen has entered Aomori Prefecture.

the Hayate as the new fastest train , shortening the journey between Tokyo and Hachinohe by approximately 40 minutes, to a maximum of 2 hours and 56 minutes.

By the way, Hachinohe's specialty, senbei soup , is a traditional local dish that has been passed down since the Edo period. Senbei soup, which uses rice crackers made from kneaded wheat flour, is said to have been promoted with the extension of the Tohoku Shinkansen line to Hachinohe Station.
