Asteroid Aizu., was discovered on January 7 2000 , at the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona, USA

After its discovery, it was assigned the provisional designation "Provisional designation 2000 AO240" for a long time. However, following the Great East Japan Earthquake, it was officially named on May 9, 2012, after the Aizu region of Fukushima Prefecture, which suffered significant damage
