On a whim, I decided to take a solo day trip to Yamagata on the Senzan Line.
The reason is simple.
As I get older and more time passes, these days I always drive by car when heading to Yamagata.
That's certainly good too...
However, wouldn't it be a good idea to take the Senzan Line and take a leisurely day trip through Yamagata City?
Because I thought.
Well, honestly
“I want to ride the Senzan Line for the first time in a while, and I want to drink without worrying.”
That makes up the majority.
So I went on a day trip to Yamagata! Honestly, I want to stay! But I have work the next day!
I don't know if it will be helpful, but I will divide it into the first part and the second part, so please follow along.
Depart from Kunimi Station!
There is no particular reason for starting from Kunimi Station. I just wanted to go to Kunimi Station.
My house is also far from Kunimi station.
What is it? This feeling of excitement,
First, buy a ticket to Yamagata Station.
The fare is 990 yen one way.
Of course, aim for the first car.
What is Senzan Line??
Here I will briefly explain the Senzan Line.
``The Senzan Line is literally the main line connects Station in Aoba Ward, Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture , and Uzen-Chitose Yamagata City, Yamagata Prefecture .
The line ends at Uzen-Chitose Station, but all trains run directly to Yamagata Station.
all stations are located in prefectural capitals (Yamagata City, Sendai City) ,
By the way, anyone who has ridden the Senzan Line or is a local knows that it the weather . ”
As I explained above, the best part of the Senzan Line is the scenery.
This route that runs through the mountains is truly fascinating.
Personally, I like this season of early summer the most.
at 10:20am !
It takes about an hour to get there between Sendai Station and Yamagata Station on the rapid train I took today.
The scenery on the Senzan Line is beautiful, and to be honest, it might be more comfortable and comfortable than coming by car.
By the way, if you drive, it will take about an hour on the toll road between Sendai Station and Yamagata Station.
Honestly, there isn't much of a time difference. When you think about gas costs, toll road fees, parking fees in the city, etc.
“Where should we go first?”
I'm glad I arrived in Yamagata, but I didn't have any idea where to go.
It's a city, so there's something going on, right? I came here on a whim...
First, spread out the map,
、、、、。
In Yamagata City, there is Kajo Park near the station!
Yamagata Castle Ruins Kajo Park
Kajo Park in Yamagata City is a nationally designated historic site and a park on the ruins of Yamagata Castle.
The park is home to the ruins of Yamagata Castle, so there are a lot of things to see.
In Kajo Park, there is of course a statue of Yoshimitsu Mogami, the first lord of the Dewa Yamagata domain.
This statue is one of the rarest in the world, and as you can immediately tell when you see it, it is standing on only the two hind legs of a horse.
The ability to make a 3-ton statue stand without support is a technique that can only be achieved by Yamagata Casting, which has a history of 900 years.
There are a variety of other buildings and museums, including gymnasiums, martial arts halls, archery fields, baseball fields, tennis courts, and the Yamagata Prefectural Museum and local museum.
Yamagata Castle Ruins Kajo Park, Yamagata City Local Museum (formerly Saiseikan main building)
Saiseikan was built as Yamagata Prefectural Hospital in 1878 (Meiji 11).It was built as a symbol of civilization and enlightenment by shrine carpenters of the Meiji era, and was relocated and restored through the efforts and skills of craftsmen of the Showa era. It's a building.
The main building of the former Saiseikan building is free to enter and anyone can tour it freely, so please stop by.
Since it was originally a prefectural hospital, you can view materials related to medical care and the lives of citizens at the time.
I also toured the former Saiseikan main building, so I think it's time to move on.
I have some places I want to stop by on my way home, so I leave from Higashi Ote Gate.
As you can see in the photo, citizens are using it for regular transportation.
I realized once again how closely connected the Yamagata Castle Ruins are to the citizens, and I realized that if there was such a large castle park in the center of the city, I would definitely use it.
To Yamagata Museum of Art
The Yamagata Museum of Art is located just outside Kajo Park and Higashi Otemon Gate, and is characterized by its permanent exhibition of mainly Japanese paintings and modern French paintings.
This is also the place I was planning to visit on this day trip.
The collection here is outstanding compared to other museums in the area.
Of course, I'm really grateful that you put so much effort into it, regardless of your tastes, hobbies, etc.
The Yamagata Museum of Art has a permanent collection of Yoshino plaster collections.
You can view some of the finest modern French paintings, including Millet, Pissarro, Manet, Degas, Cezanne, Monet, Matisse, and many others.
This is amazing, isn't it?
Next to Yamagata Museum of Art, Yoshimitsu Mogami History Museum
Yoshimitsu Mogami was the first lord of the Dewa Yamagata domain, who was active during the Sengoku period.
He was a very strong lord who fought against the eastern army in the Battle of Sekigahara, defeated Kanetsugu Naoe of the Uesugi family in the Battle of Keicho Dewa, and amassed a net worth of 570,000 koku.
This place is also free to view, so when I went inside and had a look around, a staff member told me
"Where did you come from?"
When asked, I answered, ``I came from Sendai on a trip.''
``If it's Sendai, we're related. Date Masamune's mother is Mogami Yoshimitsu's sister,'' he said to me in a friendly manner.
I knew this as a historical fact, but when I thought about it more carefully, it made me think that Date Masamune's strength and leadership in battle may have been inherited from Mogami Yoshimitsu.
This has nothing to do with the above story, but the flow of the story makes it a big sister.
“Are there any soba restaurants you recommend nearby?”
When I asked
I'll never forget someone telling me, ``I don't really like soba, I like ramen.''
This museum is a place that both Yoshimitsu Mogami and his sister will fall in love with.
That's all for the first part
This is getting long, so I'll end the first part here.
The second part starts with eating lunch.
In the second part, I'll talk a little more about the Nanukamachi area and Bunshokan, so please hang out with me a little more.
