"Place names with doors" from 1 to 9 [Sannohe] Sannohe, the birthplace of the Nanbu clan, is associated with famous places, historical sites and cat towns

Sannohe located further north on National Route 4 from northern Iwate Prefecture and across the border with Aomori Prefecture, is the birthplace of the Sannohe Nanbu clan and is an area with deep ties to the Morioka Domain.

In the early Kamakura period, Nukanobu County was awarded to Nanbu Mitsuyuki of Kai Province as a reward for his military achievements in the Oshu War, in which Minamoto no Yoritomo destroyed the Oshu Fujiwara clan

As a result, the Nanbu clan moved to Sannohe County (Sannohe Town and Nanbu Town) and made it their base, where their family temple and ancestral graves still remain to this day

A map of the Nanbu clan's greatest power at the historical site Nejo Square (Hachinohe City) shows that Sannohe is at the center

At its peak, the Nanbu territory was so vast that it was said that "it would take enough days to walk through it, even if you walked every day, for the crescent moon to turn into a full moon."

Sannohe Castle was the center of the Nanbu domain until the Edo period, when the Nanbu clan moved their base to Morioka Castle, and many famous places and historical sites related to the Nanbu clan remain in Sannohe Town and the neighboring Nanbu Town

In addition, Sannohe Town has been the site of many Jomon period ruins and artifacts excavated, and is also famous as the birthplace of manga artist Noboru Baba, author of the popular modern picture book "11 Cats."

The cat drawn by Baba is considered the town's symbolic character, and the official website of Sannohe Town features the catchphrase "Sannohe Town, a town of 11 cats who all join forces."
