Akita City Port Tower Selion

Selion consists of three buildings: Port Tower Selion, Selion Lista, and Selion Plaza.
It opened in 1994 and changed to a roadside station in 2010. Selion Plaza is mostly a building for locals, but Port Tower and Selion Lista are also recommended for tourists.

Port Tower Selion is a glass tower with a panoramic view of Akita city. The height is 143 meters, and the height near the observation deck is exactly 100 meters. The observation deck, which had a fee when it first opened, is now open to the public for free in order to attract as many people as possible. From this observation deck, you can see various scenery of Akita city, industrial area, and Akita Port from a 360-degree panoramic view. Additionally, the observation hall on the second floor can be rented for events and parties. How about holding a unique event in a slightly higher place?

The night view of Selion is also recommended. You can see the night view of Akita from the observation deck, and there are also seats for couples. And since the port tower itself is lit up, the view from below is also great! The color changes depending on the season or event, such as Christmas or Valentine's Day.

On the first floor of the Port Tower, you can purchase local vegetables and souvenirs, including Akita specialties. Best of all, this observatory is open to the public for free. By the way, the name "SELION" is a combination of the words SEA (sea) and PAVILION (exhibition hall). It's a fitting name for an observation deck that overlooks the ocean.

Selion Lista is a building full of greenery just outside the port tower, but there is a specialty here that is only known to those in the know. This is a vending machine for udon and soba. These vending machines used to be found all over Japan, but now they are rarely seen. This is a vending machine that smells like the Showa era. Both udon and soba cost 250 yen. The vending machine is open from 10:00 to 17:00 in line with Lista's business hours. Some people visit Selion just because they want to see and try this vending machine. It's a nostalgic taste that you definitely want to try when you visit Selion.

There is also a restaurant on the first floor inside the Port Tower. You can enjoy the flavors of Akita such as Ohirayama pork cutlets and smoked chicken tartare, as well as Akita's local sake. It might be a good idea to compare drinks such as Takashimizu, Yuri Masamune, and Ginrin.

It's an 18-minute drive from Akita Station and has a large parking lot, so it might be a good idea to stop by while driving.
