[Miyagi Prefecture] God cut the cape in half with the whale! “Kamiwarizaki”, where the legend of Kamiwari remains, is a sacred place for leisure! "Kamiwarisaki Campsite"

The scenic spot ``Kamiwarisaki'' in Minamisanriku-cho, Motoyoshi-gun, Miyagi Prefecture is a famous tourist destination whose name is often heard by people living in Miyagi Prefecture.

But what is it actually like? Many people may not know that! This time, we took a deep dive into the scenic spot “Kamiwarizaki”!

Kamiwarisaki, one of the most scenic spots in Minamisanriku town

Kamiwarizaki, whose official name is Kamiwarizaki Natural Park, is a natural park located on the border of Kitakami Town, Ishinomaki City and Minamisanriku Town, Motoyoshi District.

It is a famous scenic spot where the tip of the cape has been split in two due to erosion by the waves, and the waves seep in and make a splash, and there is a local legend that says, ``The rock was split by God.'' Because of this, it is called "Kamiwarizaki". More details about the tradition will be explained in the next section.

Around the end of February and around the end of October, you can enjoy the beautiful sight of the sun rising through the cracks in the rocks in the early morning, and ``Kamiwarisaki'', which you often see in tourist photos, is what it looks like during this time.

It has been selected as one of Japan's top 100 white sand and green pine trees, and was previously included in Minamisanriku Kinkasan Quasi-National Park, but since 2015 it has been incorporated into Sanriku Fukko National Park. Ta.

The whale and the cape are cut in half! Kamiwari legend

Legend has it that Kamiwarizaki is a cape that was split by a god long ago, and the following ``Kamiwari legend'' remains.

In the past, there were two villages around this area, Nagashimizuhama and Jusanhamamura.

One day, a huge whale washed ashore near here, but since the border between the two villages was unclear, a fight broke out between the two villages over the whale. While such a conflict continued, one day, suddenly, overnight, the whale that had been the source of the conflict, along with the seaside cape, was split into two pieces.

It is said that the people of both villages believed that the gods had divided the cape to arbitrate their dispute, and that from that day on, the crack in the rock became the village boundary.

Although it has become a legend, in reality the boundaries of the village remained ambiguous even in the Meiji period, and although there were several discussions, it was not demarcated, and Kamiwarizaki was placed under the joint management of the surrounding municipalities. It seems that it was.

The boundaries were established very recently in 1989, and whether by chance or on purpose, the boundaries are roughly similar to those described in the Edo period's Fudoki.

summary

It turns out that Kamiwarisaki, a famous scenic spot in Miyagi Prefecture, is also an excellent leisure spot. Scenic spots are of course worth seeing at first glance, but I think it's common for people to be satisfied with just 30 minutes and end up wasting their time.

So, when you go to see Kamiwarizaki, make sure to make a leisure plan and use the Kamiwarizaki campsite, and go to see Kamiwarizaki in between camping trips. I highly recommend it!
