Craft beer breweries in the southern half of Iwate Prefecture are competing in taste, with long-established breweries that have been brewing since the 20th century and new breweries that have appeared in the past few years.

Of the 12 breweries in Iwate Prefecture as of June 2022, we will introduce breweries in the southern part of the prefecture.

Sakura Brewery (Kitakami City)

This brewery was named after the cherry blossoms at Kitakami Tenshochi, a famous spot for cherry blossoms in Kitakami.

The British owner serves craft beers brewed using malt from England and Germany, as well as hops from around the world.

Tenshoji Sakura Ale: A fruity ale with a gorgeous aroma, brewed with yeast derived from Tenshoji cherry blossoms.

Hayama Lager: A refreshing lager brewed with clean spring water from Hayama in the city.

The origin of the name “315 (Supreme) Beer”, which opened in April 2020, is the owner’s birthday.

Our beers, which are brewed in over 5 styles and over 30 recipes, are sold by weight only, and at least 4 types are always available at reasonable prices.

Iwate Kura Beer (Ichinoseki City)

Sekinoichi Sake Brewery is a long-established sake brewery founded in 1918, and has been brewing craft beer since 1996.

More than 10 types of beer are brewed using the melted snow water from Mt. Kurikoma and abundant underground water used to brew sake.

You can enjoy freshly brewed beer at the directly managed "Kuramoto Restaurant Sekinoichi" on the premises.

Tono Beer ZUMONA (Tono City)

Kamihei Sake Brewery, a long-established sake brewery founded in the Edo period in Tono, Japan's largest producer of hops, is a non-heat-treated, unfiltered beer that is carefully brewed using local hops and groundwater.

ZUMONA "Zumona" is a dialect of the Tono region that means "it seems like there is some delicious beer in Tono."

Tono Brewing (Tono City)

We are a microbrewery founded in 2018 in Tono, the home of hops, and are working on brewing a variety of beers, with IPA and ale as our standard.

At the attached pub, ``TAPROOM,'' you can also enjoy Hazy IPA from ``ZUMONA,'' also located in Tono.

Rikuzentakada Micro Brewery (Rikuzentakada City)

This microbrewery was established in Rikuzen Takada Hakko Park CAMOCY, which was newly established in 2020 in the city of Takada, which has recovered from the Great Earthquake.In addition to selling by weight, you can drink fresh beer at CMMOCY stores.

We brew beers with unique flavors using Iwate hops and Rikuzentakada groundwater.

Summary (craft beer event information)

Craft beer brewing has been popular in the southern part of Iwate Prefecture since the 1990s, when it was called "local beer."

For this reason, the National Craft Beer Festival in Ichinoseki has been held since 1998, and is considered the largest event in Tohoku, attracting craft beers from all over the country.
