This day was established to commemorate the official naming and creation of Morioka Reimen, a specialty dish representingMorioka City, Iwate Prefecture, at the Nippon Noodle Summit held on October 17, 1986 (Showa 61). The dish was created by Pyonpyon-tei, the predecessor of Pyonpyon-sha,stilliswhichnoodlesfamous today as a renowned restaurant for cold

Incidentally, Morioka Reimen originated at the yakiniku restaurant"Shokudoen", and it is said to have started in 1954 when the owner, Teruhito Aoki, recreated the cold noodles from his hometown (present-day North Korea).

the first lord of the Dewa Shonai DomainSakai Tadakatsu,died on October 17, 1647(November 13, 1647), during the Sakai Nagato-no-kami Incident (an attempt by Tadakatsu's younger brother, Tadashige, to seize control of the domain).

With Tadakatsu's death, the attempt to seize control of the domain failed, and Tadakatsu's eldest son,Tadamasa, inherited the Shonai Domain.
