The day of the Great Aomori Air Raid (Aomori Prefecture)

July 28th to the early morning of July 29th, 1945 (Showa 20), the city of Aomori in Aomori Prefecture was subjected to air raids by the US military.

At 9:15 PM on July 28, 62 B-29 bombers took off from the US military base Iwo Jima and, between 10:37 PM and 11:48 PM, dropped 2,186 E48 incendiary cluster bombs, each consisting of 38 M74 hexagonal incendiary bombs bundled together, on the city of Aomori. The air raid warning was lifted at 12:22 AM the following day, July 29

The fire resulted in 1,767 casualties (according to some sources), 18,045 houses were destroyed (88% of the city area), and 70,166 people were affected, causing significant damage
