Saito Mokichi, a poet and psychiatrist from Kinpachi Village, Minamimurayama District, Yamagata Prefecture (now Kaminoyama City, Yamagata Prefecture) , passed away on February 25th, 1953

Saito Mokichi also left behind excellent essays such as "The Danube Genryū," "Nenjushu," and "Doba Sanbo Yawa," and his talent was highly praised by the likes of Uno Koji and Akutagawa Ryunosuke. During his lifetime, he published a total of 17 volumes of poetry anthologies, composing a total of 17,907 poems

It is said that when Akutagawa Ryunosuke was asked who he would most like to have write a novel for him, he immediately named Saito Mokichi
