The day the Seikan Tunnel opened

On March 13, 1988 (Showa 63) , the Seikan Tunnel opened to traffic along with the opening of the Kaikyo Line ( a JR Hokkaido railway line connecting Nakakuni Station in Sotogahama Town , Aomori Prefecture , to Kikonai Station in Kikonai Town, Hokkaido). The Yoshioka Undersea Station and Tappi Undersea Station , located under the Tsugaru Strait, also opened at the same time. (Yoshioka Undersea Station and Tappi Undersea Station were closed in 2014.)
