The day the Seikan Tunnel opened

On March 13, 1988 (Showa 63) , the Seikan Tunnel the Kaikyo Line ( a Nakaguni Station , Aomori Prefecture, with Kikonai Station in Kikonai Town, Hokkaido Yoshioka-Kaitei Station and Tappi-Kaitei Station located under the Tsugaru Strait, also opened at the same time. (Yoshioka-Kaitei Station and Tappi-Kaitei Station were abolished in 2014.)

The Seikan Tunnel (also known as the Seikan Tunnel) is a 53.85 km long railway tunnel that connects Imabetsu Town, Higashitsugaru District, Aomori Prefecture on Honshu with Shiriuchi Town, Kamiiso District, Hokkaido, and was the longest undersea tunnel in the world at the time
