Tohoku Shinkansen Opening Anniversary

The Tohoku Shinkansen opened on June 23, 1982 (Showa 57)

only the Omiya Station – Morioka Station section was in operation the Ueno Station – Omiya Station section opened in March 1985. In June 1991, when the line was transferred from the Japanese National Railways to East Japan Railway Company (JR East), opened.

After a gap of about ten years, the Morioka Station – Hachinohe Station section opened in December 2002 (Heisei 14) , and the Hachinohe Station – Shin-Aomori Station section opened in December 2010 (Heisei 22) , marking the full line's opening 39 years after the development plan was decided.

For this reason, December 4th is the anniversary of the opening of the entire Tohoku Shinkansen line .
