The day the boundaries of Iwate Prefecture were determined

Iwate Prefecturewas renamed from its predecessor, Morioka Prefecture, on February 16, 1872 (January 8, Meiji 5). In 1876 (Meiji 9), during the second prefectural consolidation, it incorporated the districts of Iwai, Esashi, and Iwai from Iwai Prefecture, and the district of Ninohe from Aomori Prefecture.

The first prefectural assembly was held in January 1876 (Meiji 9) , and Iwate Prefecture was officially established on May 25th of the same year
