The day the boundaries of Iwate Prefecture were determined

Iwate Prefecture was renamed from its predecessor, Morioka Prefecture, on February 16, 1872 (January 8, 1872), and in the second prefecture merger in 1876 (Meiji 9), it incorporated Isawa County, Esashi County, and Iwai County from Iwai Prefecture, and Ninohe County from Aomori Prefecture.
