March 25, 1872 (February 17, 1872 in the lunar calendar) in Magome Village, 5th Subdivision, 8th District, Chikuma Prefecture (present-day Magome, Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture). On September 8, 1896, at the age of 24, he became a teacher at Tohoku Gakuin and was assigned to Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, where he stayed for about 10 months.

Following the death of his mother in October of the same year, he began writing poetry in his home in Hasekura-cho where he was living at the time, and moved to Miuraya near Sendai Station, where he wrote his first collection of poems "Wakanashu," which marked his debut into the literary world. As a result, "Wakanashu" contains many poems written in Sendai.

He went on to publish a total of four poetry collections, and together with Doi Bansui (who was born in Sendai, Sendai Prefecture), he was known as the "Late Fuji Period" or "Late Fuji Period."

Nakakecho Fujimura Square in 2004 , and a monument to the poem was also erected.
