Oshirasama's Holiday

Oshirasama is a household deity worship that remains particularly strong in Aomori and Iwate prefectures in the Tohoku region . The deity is a doll made by carving the faces of men, women, or horses onto the end of a mulberry stick and dressing it in multiple layers of cloth.

The festival day for Oshirasama is also called "Meinichi" (death anniversary) and is held on the 16th of the 1st, 3rd, and 9th months of the lunar calendar . On Meinichi, Oshirasama is taken out of the household shrine, offered sacred food (offerings placed on the shrine), and dressed in new garments called Osendaku
