Ken Domon , a photographer who was active during the Showa era, was born on October 25, 1909, in Takamachi, Sakata-machi, Akumi-gun, Yamagata Prefecture (present-day Aioi-cho, Sakata City).

His diverse activities include photojournalism, portraits, snapshots, and photographing traditional cultural properties such as temples and Buddhist statues, and he is considered one of Japan's leading photographers after the Second World War

He died of heart failure on September 15, 1990, at the age of 80
