Current Aomori Prefecture

On September 23, 1871 Aomori Prefecture was born by changing the name of Hirosaki Prefecture

A little further back, on July 14, 1871, the abolition of feudal domains and the establishment of prefectures resulted in the establishment of five prefectures within the current Aomori prefecture Hirosaki Prefecture (Hirosaki Domain), Kuroishi Prefecture Domain ), Tonan Prefecture (Tonan Domain), Shichinohe Prefecture (Shichinohe Domain), and Hachinohe Prefecture (Hachinohe Domain). On September 4 of the same year, these five prefectures merged with Tate Prefecture (Tate Domain), which had been established on the Oshima Peninsula in Hokkaido, to form Hirosaki Prefecture.

However, 19 days later, on September 23rd, the prefectural office was moved from Hirosaki to Aomori, and the decision was made by Noda Hiromichi, the first prefectural chief councilor, to change the name of the prefecture to Aomori Prefecture
