The day Aomori Prefecture was founded

On September 23, 1871 (Meiji 4)changing its name from Hirosaki PrefectureAomori Prefecturewas established,

Going back a bit further, on July 14, 1871Hirosaki Prefecture(Meiji 4)Kuroishi(Kuroishi Domain),(TonamiPrefecture(Tonami Domain), Shichinohe Prefecture (Shichinohe Domain), andHachinohe Prefecture(Hachinohe Domain), which inherited the former feudal domains. On September 4 of the same year, these five prefectures merged with Tate Prefecture (Tate Domain), which had been established on the Oshima Peninsula in Hokkaido, to form Hirosaki Prefecture.

However, 19 days later, on September 23rd, the prefectural office was moved from Hirosaki to Aomori, and the decision was made by Noda Hiromichi, the first prefectural chief councilor, to change the name of the prefecture to Aomori Prefecture
