[Fukushima Prefecture] A day trip to Iizaka Onsen from Fukushima Station on the Fukushima Kotsu Iizaka Line (Iiden)!

the second day of a one-night, two-day gourmet trip from Sendai [ Iizaka Onsen Edition]!

Iizaka Onsen is one of the oldest hot springs in the Tohoku region, and is said to have been visited by Matsuo Basho in 1689 on his way to the famous Oku no Hosomichi.

Along with Naruko Onsen and Akiu Onsen the three famous hot springs in Oshu (Tohoku) and is a historic hot spring area.

Take Fukushima Kotsu's local line "Iizaka Line (Iiden)" to Iizaka Onsen!

Fukushima Kotsu's local line ``Iizaka Line (Iiden)'' that connects to Iizaka Onsen is operated by a different company than JR, so the station entrance is different.

The entrance to the Abukuma Express Line/Iizaka Line (commonly known as Iiden) operated by Fukushima Kotsu can be found a little north of JR Fukushima Station, if you walk a little to the left with your back to the JR Fukushima Station East Exit.

This retro feel is already exciting.

One ticket can accommodate up to one adult, one elementary school student, and two infants, and since it's a one-day ticket you can get on and off as many times as you like at any station.

Furthermore, with this ticket you can bathe in one of the nine public baths at Iizaka Onsen (the hot spring admission ticket is for one person only), and you can also get great service benefits by showing this ticket at a participating store.

There are four types of tickets for each season, and if you complete them, you can receive a souvenir.

When you exit the station, there is a bronze statue of Matsuo Basho in the plaza on the north side of the station building. It is said to have been erected on December 21, 1982 (Showa 57).

From Iizaka Onsen Station to the former Horikiri residence 480 meters away

The Old Horikiri House is a tourist destination in Iizaka Onsen that opened in May 2010 and is an old house that has been in existence since the Edo period, repaired, restored, and partially rebuilt.

Former Horikiri residence front entrance

The buildings that existed from that time were the front gate, main house, ten-ken storehouse, and well hut.The main house was destroyed in a fire in 1880, but was rebuilt the following year in 1881. The other buildings appear to have been newly constructed.

In 1578, Haruzen Sugawara, Tarozaemon Umemiya , who moved from present-day Fukui Prefecture to Iizaka Onsen, cultivated an area of approximately 39,700 square meters and devoted himself to agriculture and sericulture.

The Akagawa river that flowed through the village at the time frequently flooded and caused damage, so Umemiya Tarozaemon Haruyoshi Sugawara ``cut a moat'' to change the flow of the Akagawa river and used the reclaimed land as housing. The place name here was ``Horikiri,'' and it seems that Tarozaemon Umemiya, Haruyoshi Sugawara, came to be called ``Horikiri

There are also hand and foot baths inside, so you can spend a relaxing time enjoying the changing seasons among the trees in the courtyard. Admission is free, so feel free to use it.

To Iizaka Onsen's famous public bath

I went to Hakoyu , one of the nine public baths in Iizaka Onsen

Hakoyu
Hakoyu

Sabakoyu which is famous for being used by Matsuo , and has been loved by people for over 1200 years.

Sabakoyu (Sabakoyu)

Hakoyu, which was newly built in January 2011, has a Japanese-style exterior with a drum and a tower, and there is a bathroom on the first basement floor.

Both men and women can enjoy two bathtubs that are unique to Iizaka Onsen: hot water directly from the source, and warm water that is adjusted to an appropriate temperature so that anyone can take a bath.

The only public bathhouse with rental items

Hagiyu is the only public bath among the nine public baths that rents bath towels, so you can go there empty-handed and leave empty-handed, making it a recommended public bath for tourists.

List of rental items

  • Bath towel 180 yen
  • Other face towels 120 yen
  • Rental towel set 380 yen (face towel, bath towel, soap, shampoo, conditioner)

Other public baths are for sale only. You can also purchase it at Hagiyu.

The dumplings come in the form of discs and are for 2 people or more.

3 servings of gyoza

The disk gyoza contains plenty of vegetables, and the skin is thin and easy to eat, so even if one person ate three servings, it wasn't much.

Many people enjoyed gyoza with popular ramen and katsudon.

Although it's not on the menu, you can order bottled beer, so you can enjoy gyoza and beer together!
