Asteroid Iitatemura September 24, 1989 , in Kani City, Gifu Prefecture, by astrophotographers Yoshikane Mizuno and Toshimasa Furuta .

The name was proposed by Hiroaki Ohno, director of the Hoshinomura Astronomical Observatory in Fukushima Prefecture, and was named after the village of Iitate in Fukushima Prefecture, which was completely evacuated due to the Great East Japan Earthquake. It is believed that even though the villagers are living apart, if they have an "Asteroid Iitate Village" in the same space, their hearts will be united and their bonds will be deepened
