Hideyo Noguchi, a physician and bacteriologist from Mitsuwa Village, Yama District, Fukushima Prefecture (now Inawashiro Town, Yama District), is known for his research into yellow fever and syphilis as a researcher at the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research in the United States.

He contracted yellow fever while researching it and died on May 21, 1928 (Showa 3)
