The Miyagi Prefecture Kamaboko Association and Kibun Foods Co., Ltd., a manufacturer and seller of processed seafood products, jointly established July 7th as " Sasakama Day " because Tanabata is also known as "Sasa no Sekku" (Bamboo Festival) . This commemorative day was certified and registered by the Japan Anniversary Association in 2013.

Sasakama, known as a specialty of Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, was originally

  • Palm-sized kamaboko (fish cake)
  • Bero kamaboko
  • Leaf-shaped fish cake

It was known by various names, but it is said that the origin of the product was when Hideo Abe , the founder of Abe Kamaboko Store , started selling it under the name "Sendai Specialty Sasakamaboko," named after the family crest of the Date clan of the Sendai Domain, which is "bamboo and sparrow."
