[Craft Beer in Sendai City and Southern Miyagi Prefecture] 5 New Breweries Opening One After Another!

As of June 2022, there are two microbreweries in Sendai city, and one each in Shiogama city, Natori city, and Kakuda city

With the recent craft beer boom, the number of restaurants serving it is increasing, and there are several breweries planning to open in Sendai city


BATSUJI BREWING (Aoba Ward, Sendai City)

It opened in October 2021 as part of the CROSS B PLUS complex at Basho-no-Tsuji in Sendai City, and is currently a hot topic as the first stylish brewery in central Sendai

Six types of craft beer are brewed in six tanks that can be viewed through glass windows, including three types of hazy IPAs made with IBUKI hops from Tono City, Iwate Prefecture

At the on-site restaurant, you can enjoy delicious dishes that go perfectly with beer and the pairing of freshly brewed beer

Kokucho Beer (Wakabayashi Ward, Sendai City)

With the rise of microbreweries following the revision of the Liquor Tax Act, this is Sendai's first microbrewery, opened in 2017 in the merchant town of Kokucho

The beer brewed by the owner, who is fascinated by Belgian beer, is high in alcohol content and satisfying to drink, and you can enjoy freshly brewed beer at the attached brewpub, "Beer Brother (Bianini)."

Argon Brewing (Shiogama City)

This is Shiogama City's first microbrewery, founded in 2019

Not only the interior of the shop but also the brewing tanks were handcrafted by the owner, and the attached brewpub always has five types of freshly brewed beer on offer, including IPAs and ales

Miyagi Yuriage Beer Brewery (Natori City)

The brewery's owner had been running Tori no Umi Brewery in the neighboring town of Watari since 1997, but it was washed away by the tsunami caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011

After that, the brewery continued in Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture, but in October 2019, it relocated to Yuriage, Natori Town, which was hit by a devastating tsunami, and is currently cooperating with the redevelopment efforts

Sennan Craft Beer (Kakuda City)

Since 1997, they have been producing many different styles of beer, focusing on German-style beers

Located inside the Sennan Shinken Factory, this beer restaurant has a German atmosphere and serves freshly brewed beer along with sausages and sauerkraut made from local pork

Many craft beer events are held in Sendai, but one that is a little different is the "World Beer and Meat Festival" at Rakuten Seimei Park Miyagi, home of the professional baseball team Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles
