Harakomeshi Day (Miyagi Prefecture)

October 8th is designated as "Harako-meshi Day," a commemorative day for the local dish of Watari Town, Watari District, Miyagi Prefecture

"Harakomeshi"is a local dish originating in the Arahama district of Watari Town, consisting of rice topped with generous portions of salmon fillets and large harako (ikura). Watari Town established this commemorative day with the hope that people all over the country would learn about its deliciousness.

October is the month when salmon fishing is permitted on the Abukuma River, and the number "8" is also the "ha" in "harako" (salmon roe), and the shape of salmon roe grains arranged vertically resembles the number 8. These factors led to the designation of October 8th as a commemorative day
