October 8th is designated as "Harako-meshi Day," a commemorative day for the local dish of Watari Town, Watari District, Miyagi Prefecture

"Harakomeshi"is a local dish originating in the Arahama district of Watari Town, consisting of rice topped with generous portions of salmon fillets and large harako (ikura). Watari Town established this commemorative day with the hope that people all over the country would learn about its deliciousness.

The Awanosu Incident (Fukushima Prefecture)

October 8, 1585(November 29, 1585 in the Gregorian calendar)was the day when Date Terumune, the father of Date Masamune, was abducted at Miyamori Castle (present-day Nihonmatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture) by Hatakeyama Yoshitsugu, the 9th head of the Nihonmatsu clan, and died along with the Nihonmatsu forces that abducted him.
