Birthday of Matsudaira Katamori, the 9th lord of the Aizu domain (Fukushima Prefecture)

Matsudaira Katamori, the 9th lord of the Mutsu Kaizu Domain on December 29th, Tempo 6 (February 15th, 1836).

He was born as the sixth son of Matsudaira Yoshitake, the 10th lord of the Takasu domain in Mino Province, at the Takasu domain residence in Edo Yotsuya Dote Sanbancho, and went to Aizu in 1851. The following year, in 1852, Matsudaira Yoshitaka, the 8th lord of the Aizu domain, passed away, and he became the lord of Aizu and Higo no Kami on February 15th of the same year (old calendar)

In 1862, at the age of 28, he was appointed as the Kyoto Shugoshoku (protector of Kyoto). After that, he was caught up in the great upheavals of the times, which led to the Boshin War, and as a result, he effectively became the last lord of the Aizu domain (*)
