On April 23, 1821 (May 24, 1821) , the "Soma Daisaku Incident" is said to have occurred, in which several people, led by Shimotomai Hidenoshin, a samurai of the Morioka domain, attempted to ambush and attack Tsugaru Yasuchika, the lord of the Hirosaki domain, who was returning to his home province from Edo after completing his sankin-kotai (alternate attendance) duties, at Iwanukiyama in Shirasawa Village, Akita domain (near present-day National Route 7 in Shirasawa, Odate City, Akita Prefecture) .

"Soma Daisaku"was the alias of the ringleader, Shimotomai Hidenoshin, and the attack itself failed due to a prior tip-off.
