On April 23, 1821 (May 24, 1821) , the "Soma Daisaku Incident" is said to have occurred when several men, led by Shimotomai Hidenoshin, a samurai from the Tsugaru Yasuchika, the lord of the Hirosaki domain, who was returning to his home province from Edo after completing his alternate attendance at Iwanukeyama in Shirasawa village in the Akita domain (near present-day National Route 7 in Shirasawa, Odate city, Akita prefecture) .

"Soma Daisaku" was the nickname of the mastermind, Shimotomi Hidenoshin, and the attack itself ended in failure due to a prior tip-off.
