The Sanriku Railway Rias Lineis the collective name for the Sanriku Railway's railway lines connecting Mori Station in Ofunato City, Iwate Prefecture, and Kuji Station in Kuji City, Iwate Prefecture.

Due to historical circumstances at the time of construction, the Rias Line

  • The section between Mori Station and Kamaishi Station (South Rias Line)andthe section between Miyako Station and Kuji Station (North Rias Line)were operated by Japanese National Railways (JNR) > Sanriku Railway.
  • The section between Kamaishi Station and Miyako Station (Rias Line)was formerly the Yamada Line of the Ministry of Railways > Japanese National Railways > JR East.

The operating company was separate

The South Rias Line and North Rias Line suffered extensive damage from the tsunami caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake (Tohoku-Pacific Ocean Earthquake) on March 11, 2011, but were fully restored by April 6, 2014

The section of the JR Yamada Line between Miyako Station and Kamaishi Station, which was located between the North and South Rias Lines, was restored by JR East and then transferred to Sanriku Railway. The entire line came under the jurisdiction of Sanriku Railway andMarch 23, 2019onthe Sanriku Railway Rias Lineresumed operation as
