[Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture] If you want to experience the traditions of Hirosaki, head to Tsugaru Domain Neputa Village!

When it comes to festivals that represent Aomori, that would be "Nebuta."
In the summer, various chants and shouts fill the night streets throughout the prefecture.

However, take a good look at the Nebuta Festival map.
You'll notice that the names differ slightly from place to place.

Among them, the most difficult to distinguish is the "Neputa" of Hirosaki City.
This time, we will introduce "Tsugaru-han Neputa Village," a facility that introduces Hirosaki's specialties, including the "Neputa"!

A defining characteristic of Neputa floats is their enormous fan shape.
While Aomori's Nebuta and Goshogawara's Tachineputa floats have complex, human-like forms, Hirosaki Neputa floats have a simple shape.
There are several theories as to why, but the most interesting one is that it's because they are easier to repair.

In the past, fights between floats were commonplace, and floats were often damaged by collisions and thrown stones.
If a float had a complex shape, it would be impossible to repair it quickly. However,
with the simple design of Hirosaki Neputa floats, repairs can be completed by simply pasting washi paper over the torn parts.

By the way, you can get an explanation of this story from the staff at the float exhibition venue!
It's fascinating information, including the origin of the name "Neputa," so be sure to listen!

Furthermore, at the end of the explanation, you can enjoy a live performance of Neputa Taiko drums.
The powerful sound that resonates deep in your heart is sure to leave you hooked after just one listen! You'll
even get to try playing the drums yourself, making it a great opportunity for parents who want to give their children a valuable experience!
