Tenshukaku Natural Park, located further into Akiu Onsen, is a park where the beauty of nature has been enhanced by humans. This time, we will introduce Tenshukaku Natural Park!

What is Tenshukaku Natural Park?

Although it is called Tenshukaku, it does not mean that there was a castle here.
Sadashige, the third generation of the Baba clan, a branch of the Akiu clan, a powerful family in Miyagi Prefecture, built a mansion in the area where the current Tenshukaku Natural Park is located as an important military location.
In other words, it is called Tenshukaku Natural Park because it is a park that was created at a site where there was not a castle tower, but a ``kan'' that functioned like a castle tower.

The Tenshukaku Natural Park has a variety of attractions, including the Koyadate ruins garden, Ichitaro-no-Yu, and an auto campground.
When you're tired of living in modern society, it might be a good idea to come here for some solace!

Koyadate Ruins Garden

The remains of the building, which served as a castle tower, are now open to the public as a garden.
The Akiho stone garden, which takes advantage of the natural landscape, is overwhelmingly impressive, and the contrast with the Nishikigoi carp swimming gracefully in the beautiful pond surrounding it is a true collaboration between culture and nature.
Over 100 plum trees and 500 maple trees grow around the pond, and many visitors visit in spring and autumn to take in the beautiful scenery.
Especially in autumn, the illumination of the maple trees called Akiu Night Museum is very popular.

There are two footbaths in the garden, where you can easily enjoy the hot water of Akiu Onsen.
There is a small mini footbath near the entrance, but don't be satisfied with that.

``Yakata no Yu'' in the second half of the garden is a splendid footbath located at a scenic spot.
Strolling through the park will soothe your tired feet while gazing at the majestic nature will soothe your soul.

Ichitaro no Yu

Akiu Onsen is not all about the area around the hot spring inn.
There are also hot springs full of charm that you would never experience at a hot spring at a ryokan.
That is "Ichitaro no Yu".

Ichitaro-no-Yu is a day-trip hot spring attached to the Tenshukaku Natural Park.
The indoor bath, made of Japanese cypress and bathed in bright sunlight, is a proud large communal bath filled with a rich aroma and a sense of openness.
On the other hand, the open-air bath is attractive because you can enjoy the charm of the four seasons against the backdrop of the beautiful scenery of the Koyadate Garden.

In particular, the view from the open-air bath can never be enjoyed in a hot spring town, so be sure to try it when you visit!
The entrance fee is separate, but if you pay the admission fee for Ichitaro-no-Yu, the admission fee for Koyadate Garden will be free, so if you want to enjoy both, you can pay the admission fee for Ichitaro-no-Yu. Please pay!

Other charms!

There are many other recommended spots in the Tenshukaku Natural Park.
The auto campground, which can be enjoyed from April to October, has 19 tent sites, and you can also rent a stone oven for baking pizza for a fee.
There is also an open-air bath exclusively for guests, so you can instantly relieve the fatigue of camping!

The sister facility ``Ki no Ie'' has a coffee shop, a utensil shop, an Akiu craft shop, and a lodge village, where you can purchase pots and miscellaneous goods made by Akiu craftsmen. If you bring a common admission ticket for the lodge village and auto campground, you'll be happy to know that the price of Ichitaro-no-Yu will be cheaper!
