Legends of Ono no Komachi are told all over Japan, but Ogatsu Town is said to be where she was born

According to a legend passed down in the village of Ono, Komachi went to Kyoto at the age of 13 and served at the Imperial Court for 20 years. Because of her beauty, many men proposed to her, but she never gave up

It is said that after leaving court service, she lived a quiet life

The Shosho of Fukakusa falls in love with Komachi, to which she responds, "If you come to me for a hundred nights, I will grant your wish."

The Shosho continues to travel 5km every night to bring peonies to Komachi

After delivering 99 peonies, and with only one left to deliver, a heavy autumn rain fell. However, Shosho set off to meet Komachi to fulfill his wish. The moment he stepped onto the bridge over the river, the bridge was washed away

Fukakusa Shosho was unable to achieve his wish

After that, Komachi is said to have retired to Iwayado and passed away at the age of 92
