Cybelle Factory Park

Come see how rusks are made at Sibel Factory Park!

At the intersection of National Route 13 and National Route 21, which connects to Yamagata Zao, there is a wonderful confectionery factory that Yamagata is proud of.
It is the Sibel Factory, and
it is where the history of rusks in Japan began.

This time, we will introduce the Sibel Factory, a confectionery factory that the whole family can enjoy

What is Cybelle?

Cybelle is a company headquartered in Yamagata that manufactures and sells baked goods, including rusks. Founded in 1966, it is a long-established rusk factory with a 50-year history

Rusks are a type of biscuit, made from thinly sliced French bread that has been baked twice. They were
originally created as a way to enjoy leftover or unsold French bread.

The history of rusks in Japan began in 1994.
Sibel started by "baking French bread specifically for rusks."
Although this is commonplace now, it was revolutionary at the time and was met with opposition from many bakers.

Sibel's rusks are made from French bread specially prepared for rusks, which means they have more air bubbles inside and are crispier than regular rusks, giving them a special texture.
Also, because they don't use offcuts or leftovers, the French bread has a unique diagonal cut called a coupe before it is cut.
When you slice it thinly, the cross section of the rusk forms a beautiful heart shape!
Cute to look at and delicious to eat, this is Sibel's rusk.

The open cafe serves Italian cuisine such as pizza and pasta.
They also offer cake sets, so we recommend enjoying a relaxing tea time after touring the museum.

Chihitsudo Bunko Yamagata Library, Japan's Future Museum for Mothers and Children

The library stocks books that author Hisashi Inoue used as reference material when creating his works, as well as books selected from his library that can be enjoyed by mothers and children.
Although they are not available for loan, you can read them freely in the library or lobby, so it is recommended for parents and children.

Also in the same building is a paid facility called "The Japanese Future Museum for Mothers and Children."
This is a facility where you can experience Bologna, Italy, a place that Hisashi Inoue longed for. It
is full of devices that allow you to experience the "words" that mothers want to pass on to their children through sight, hearing, and thought.
