Cybelle Factory Park

Come see how rusks are made at Sibel Factory Park!

At the intersection of National Route 13 and National Route 21, which leads to Yamagata Zao, there is a wonderful confectionery factory that Yamagata is proud of.
It is the Sibelle Factory,
the place where the history of rusks in Japan began.

This time, we will introduce the Sibel Factory, a confectionery factory that the whole family can enjoy

What is Cybelle?

Cybelle is a company headquartered in Yamagata that manufactures and sells baked goods, including rusks. Founded in 1966, it is a long-established rusk factory with a 50-year history

Rusk is a type of biscuit, a baked confection made from thinly sliced French bread that has been baked twice.
It was originally a treat created to make leftover or unsold French bread more palatable.

The history of rusks in Japan began in 1994.
Sibelle started by "baking French bread specifically for making rusks."
While this is commonplace now, it was groundbreaking at the time and faced considerable opposition from bakers.

Sibelle's rusks are made from French bread specially prepared for rusk making, resulting in a richer texture with more air bubbles inside, making them crispier and more unique than ordinary rusks.
Also, because they don't use scraps or leftovers, the French bread has a unique diagonal cut called a "coupe" before being sliced.
When thinly sliced, the cross-section of the rusk is a beautiful heart shape!
Cute to look at and delicious to eat, that's Sibelle's rusk.

Highlights of Cybelle Factory Park

Now, the Sibelle Factory Park, which I'll introduce today, is a theme park where you can take a free tour of the factory that makes those delicious rusks. It's a
theme park where you can experience not only food but also all kinds of culture, including a rusk factory, a confectionery shop selling the rusks they produce, a library, and an arena for plays and lectures.

You can freely enter and exit the viewing corridor and watch the rusks being made through the windows.
A touch-panel video in the corridor features cute rabbits explaining "how rusks are made," so people of all ages, from young children to adults, can enjoy the factory tour.

Sibel's Cafe

This open-air cafe serves Italian dishes such as pizza and pasta.
They also offer cake sets, so it's a great place to relax and enjoy a leisurely tea time after your tour.

Chihitsudo Bunko Yamagata Library, Japan's Future Museum for Mothers and Children

features books that author Hisashi Inoue used as reference material when creating his works, as well as books selected from his personal collection that can be enjoyed by mothers and children.
While the books are not available for loan, you can freely read them in the library and lobby, making it a great place for families with children.

Also located in the same building is a paid facility called "The Museum of Japan's Future for Mothers and Children."
This facility allows visitors to experience Bologna, Italy, a city that Hisashi Inoue admired. It
is full of interactive exhibits that allow visitors to experience the "words" that mothers want to pass down to their children through sight, sound, and thought.

Factory Maison

This shop features a Western-style confectionery store selling rusks, cakes, and baked goods, as well as a bakery selling freshly baked bread.
The rusks are especially recommended. They're
reasonably priced and make a perfect souvenir, so treat yourself or your friends and family!

This bakery changes its offerings seasonally, making it a place you'll want to visit regularly.
Of course, their standard items are also appealing, and you'll definitely have trouble deciding which to choose!
The carefully crafted sweet buns are not only delicious but also visually appealing, making you want to take pictures of them.

Sibelle Factory Park is a lively yet somehow tranquil space that recreates a townscape straight out of a European picture book.
It's the kind of place where you could easily end up spending the whole day, even if you only came to buy souvenirs, so it's best to visit with plenty of time to spare.
