[Tagajo City, Miyagi Prefecture] Too much fun for both adults and children! Tohoku History Museum!

Tagajo is a town with such a long history that it appears in textbooks along with Sakanoue Tamuramaro's name.
There is a history museum in Tagajo that has many historical materials from Tohoku.

Its name is ``Tohoku History Museum.''
It is a large-scale facility that exhibits the history of not only Tagajo and Miyagi Prefecture, but the entire Tohoku region, from the Paleolithic period to modern times, organized by period.

This time, I went to this museum that can be enjoyed not only by adults but also by children!

Cultural creation for the 21st century! What is Tohoku Museum of History?

The Tohoku History Museum is a museum that was established to ``rediscover and disseminate the image of Tohoku, supporting regional revitalization and creating opportunities to think about ``Tomorrow's Tohoku.''
The facility was originally named the Tohoku Historical Museum in 1971, but was renovated in 1999.
It has been reborn as the Tohoku History Museum.

Kokufu-Tagajo Station on the JR Tohoku Main Line and Senseki Line is the closest station, and there are many historical sites of Tagajo in the surrounding area.
Just by taking a walk, you can think about the waves of history.

The building has a futuristic design with a cylindrical entrance hall.
The interior has a high ceiling and an open feel, allowing you to view the exhibits in a relaxed manner.

A comprehensive exhibition room divided into 9 corners!

The exhibition room is divided into special exhibitions and permanent exhibitions, but this time we will introduce the general exhibition room, which is the permanent exhibition.

The general exhibition room exhibits the history of Tohoku from the Paleolithic period to modern times.
There are nine corners organized by era, each displaying historical materials collected from all over the Tohoku region.

In the Jomon period corner, there is an exhibit titled ``Life in Oak Forests and Waterfronts'' that recreates life at that time.
Please take a look at the lives of the Jomon people who built neat houses and lived there!

Three themed exhibition rooms and a video exhibition room

A permanent exhibition ticket allows you to see more than just the general exhibition room.
You can also tour the three themed exhibition rooms that delve into themes that highlight the characteristics of the Tohoku region, as well as the video exhibition room where you can watch original videos of intangible culture such as events, performing arts, and technology.

The theme exhibition room is an exhibition room where exhibits are held on themes such as ``ethnic and folk art,'' ``personal collection,'' and ``art and crafts and history.''
The exhibits are organized by theme, centering on actual materials from the museum's collection, and the themes and exhibits change regularly, so you can enjoy them over and over again.

In the video exhibition, images of intangible cultural properties will be projected on a large 250-inch screen.
Screenings are held twice a day.
The video here also changes regularly, so don't miss it!
By the way, the chairs are super comfortable to sit on, so you'll get rid of all the fatigue while watching the video!

Children's history museum that you can enjoy for free! You can also try making a fire! ?

Children's History Museum

In addition to exhibition rooms, the Tohoku Museum of History has a wealth of facilities such as a library and information room and a restaurant.
One of the most recommended is the Children's History Museum.
You can learn about Tohoku's history through 11 experiences based on 11 themes such as "cutting," "touching," "wearing," and "assembling"!

At the ``Fire-making'' work table, you can experience old fire-making methods such as ``Kirimomi'' and ``Maigiri'', so we recommend it!
It's very rare to find a facility where you can actually make a fire, so if you want to make some special memories, definitely give it a try!

Take a break at the Konno family residence built in the Edo period!

Konno family

Outside the museum is a traditional house.
This building, which is symmetrical with the main building, which is inspired by the near future, is the Konno family residence.
This Edo period house was relocated from Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, and is designated as a tangible cultural property of Miyagi Prefecture.

You are free to take your time looking around or just take a break, so why not take a look around?
