What kind of festival is Goshogawara Tachineputa?

The Nebuta fire festival has been passed down for over 400 years, mainly in the Tsugaru region. There are records of the Goshogawara Tachineputa festival being held during the Meiji period, but all of the blueprints and photographs were lost in a fire after the war, and the festival is no longer held

However, in 1993, blueprints and photographs were discovered, and calls for the revival of the Goshogawara Tachineputa grew, leading to its revival in 1998 for the first time in 80 years. Today, it is held every year for five days from August 4th to 8th

The biggest attraction of Goshogawara Tachineputa is the gigantic Tachineputa, which is 20 meters tall and weighs 19 tons. Three giant Tachineputa and about 15 medium-sized and small Nebuta floats parade through the streets of Goshogawara

The shouts of "Yattemare! Yattemare!" and the accompanying music liven up the festival

How to view the Goshogawara Tachineputa

The Nebuta parade route changes every year, but they usually follow the roads around JR Goshogawara Station. They always start out at the Tachineputa Museum, so it's nice to wait there for the Nebuta to appear

During the Goshogawara Tachineputa festival, traffic restrictions are in place in front of JR Goshogawara Station, so it is best to avoid driving and use the train instead

Before the festival, you should visit the Tachineputa Museum

Before the festival begins, let's head to the Tachineputa Museum, where the Nebuta floats are launched. The large Tachineputa floats that are used in the festival are stored and exhibited here, and you can learn about the history of Tachineputa floats
