As of 2024, there are 35 roadside stations in Fukushima Prefecture, each with its own unique character and appealing to driving tourists
Of these, one station has hotel-like accommodation facilities where you can stay and have fun, and two stations have the recently popular "RV parks" where you can reserve space for a fee and enjoy sleeping in your car without worrying about other users
In this article, we will introduce these three roadside stations where you can stay overnight
Kunimi Atsushinosato Roadside Station (Kunimi Town, Date District: National Route 4)

It opened on May 3, 2017 (Heisei 29) along National Route 4 in Kunimi Town, near the border with Miyagi Prefecture, as the first roadside station in Fukushima Prefecture with accommodation facilities
" AtsukashiAtsukashiyama , the symbol of Kunimi Town , and is registered as the station name with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

There are four Western-style twin rooms on the second floor of the building equipped with free Wi-Fi, and the spacious bedrooms can accommodate up to four people with an extra bed
There is a parking lot for guests at the back of the building, so you don't have to worry if the parking lot in front is full
The rooms are equipped with a large bathroom with a bathtub and a separate toilet with a heated toilet seat. The interior is made with plenty of wood from Kunimi, allowing you to relax in the warmth of the wood

The accommodation floor also has a large hall and training rooms, making it suitable for club training camps and company overnight training sessions
Check-in is at 3:00 PM (final check-in is at 6:00 PM), and check-out is at 10:00 AM the following day

The high ceilings and spacious tables allow you to relax and enjoy your meal
Among the dishes made with rice and ingredients from Kunimi, the most popular is the " Fuyama Plateau Pork Ginger Pork ," and the lunch buffet offers local dishes made with local vegetables.
There is also a wide selection of take-out menu items and bento boxes, making it the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely meal in your room
Kunimi Burger & Gelateria
The Kunimi Burger , a bun filled with miso-marinated mackerel, is an unexpected combination, but it is a popular local B-grade gourmet dish that has a "surprisingly delicious taste once you try it."
They also have burgers such as "chicken cutlet with cheese sauce" and potato salad, and you can also enjoy delicious coffee from "Aguri Coffee," a coffee shop that roasts its own beans in Fukushima City
Other recommended items include Kunimi Ramen " and " Atsuka Kakiage Soba/Udon

Roadside Station Inawashiro (Inawashiro Town, Yama District: National Route 115, National Route 49)

Inawashiro Roadside Station is located near the Inawashiro Bandai Kogen IC on the Ban'etsu Expressway, just after turning onto National Route 115 from National Route 49, which runs east-west through Fukushima Prefecture.
Located at the foot of Mt. Bandai, it offers great views and has an RV park where you can stay overnight in your car for a fee. This roadside station serves as a base for sightseeing in Bandai Plateau and Aizu, and the information corner is open 24 hours a day and has free Wi-Fi

Please note that the RV park is closed during the winter (December to March) due to snowfall, so please check in advance if you plan to visit around this time

All five RV parking spaces come with a free 100V household power box with a capacity of 20A
Each space is 6m x 4m, and you can set up tables and chairs within the space. There are toilets available 24 hours a day, and water and garbage disposal are free of charge
You can also bring pets to stay overnight in your car, and there is a large, free dog run on the lawn area of the premises that is open from 9:30 to 16:00
Check-in is between 10:00 and 17:00, and you can pay the usage fee and receive the power box key and other items at the office behind the information corner
Check-out is by 10am the next morning, and all you have to do is place your return items in the return box in the information corner

The restaurant, whose name is the first letter of Inawashiro, has a wide variety of menu items made with local ingredients such as rice and buckwheat flour, and its popular dish is the " Furuyama Highland Pork Sauce Katsudon " (pork cutlet bowl) made with brand pork.

Other popular dishes include Aizu chicken oyakodon (chicken and egg rice), rice with raw egg, and pizza baked in a stone oven using dough blended with rice flour, and Inawashiro local beer is also available

Inoya: A famous Kitakata ramen restaurant where the salted pork
Bandai Snow Dogs : Recommended: Maru Koppe Sandwich with Sakura Croquette made with horse meat
Houraido : A Japanese confectionery shop that sells tempura buns, bamboo dumplings, and other items, as well as seasonal shaved ice and zenzai.

In addition to Inawashiro's agricultural products and processed goods, local sake, souvenirs, and traditional crafts such as "Akabeko," there is also a wide selection of products exclusive to the roadside station
Roadside Station Kirara 289 (Minamiaizu Town, Minamiaizu District: National Route 289)

This roadside station in Yamaguchi Onsen, Oku-Aizu, is home to the Kita-Nikko Oku-Aizu Roadside Station Kirara 289 RV Park (may be closed in winter), where you can enjoy hot spring bathing and sleeping in your car in the natural surroundings of the mountains
There is a free check-in space (5m x 7m) with a household 100V (15A) power outlet for 5 cars, and it is located near the toilets which are open 24 hours a day, so you can feel safe even at night
Minamiaizu is famous for its tomatoes, and at the restaurant you can enjoy Italian-style " tomato ramen " and soft serve ice cream filled with tomato juice. Recommended souvenirs include Minamiaizu's local sake, as well as the limited-edition " Nango Tomato Roll Cake " and " Nango Tomato Juice ."
Please note that the restaurant closes early on weekdays
Currently, the only roadside stations in Fukushima Prefecture that offer accommodation facilities or RV parks are the three introduced here
As an increasing number of roadside stations across the country no longer allow overnight stays in cars due to a decline in manners, there are growing calls for an increase in facilities where overnight stays are possible, such as RV parks
