In Aomori Prefecture, there is one roadside station with hotel-like accommodation attached, but there are three roadside stations with adjacent campsites where you can stay in auto camping or cottages
These roadside stations are recommended as they offer a more comfortable and safer place to stay than sleeping in your car in a parking lot
Roadside Station Tairadate (Sotogahama Town, Higashitsugaru District, Aomori Prefecture: National Route 280)

This roadside station is located near Hiradate Lighthouse, along the Matsumae Kaido (National Route 280), the former Matsumae clan's alternate attendance route, which is closest to the Shimokita Peninsula on the entrance/exit side of Mutsu Bay and where historical sites remain
The area is surrounded by rich nature and bustles with people swimming in the sea in the summer. It is also a popular base for sightseeing on the Tsugaru Peninsula, including Cape Tappi . You can also stay overnight at , Odaiba Auto Village

The name "Odaiba" comes from the fact that a battery was once installed on this land to defend Mutsu Bay, and the remains of the battery remain as a historical site near Hiradate Lighthouse

There are 10 cottages in the forest and 20 grassy auto camping sites, and it is rare in Aomori Prefecture to be able to stay there during the winter, and in the summer you can enjoy the sauna in a rental sauna tent

The two-story cottage is fully equipped with a bathroom, toilet, heating and air conditioning, kitchen utensils and dishes, and amenities such as toothbrushes and bath towels.It can accommodate up to six people

You can choose from two types: Type A, which is log cabin style, and Type B, which is Western style
The auto camping areas are spacious and the sanitary house with kitchen and flush toilets is available 24 hours a day

Tairadate Roadside Station Restaurant

Scallop Bowl " and " Scallop Broth Salt Ramen , with fried scallops, a specialty of Mutsu Bay, served with egg and broth in the style of a katsudon.
However, please note that the restaurant closes at 4pm if you are staying overnight, but all menu items except for noodles can be taken out as bento boxes, so you can use them for dinner

Kodomari Pontomari Roadside Station (Nakadomari Town, Kitatsugaru District: National Route 339)

Hiradate is a roadside station facing the Sea of Japan on the west side, opposite the Tsugaru Peninsula, and is located along National Route 339, also known as the Tatsudomari Line.
In the summer, Orikoshi-nai Beach is right in front of the hotel, and you can stay for a long period of time by staying at the nearby Orikoshi-nai Auto Campground, but it is closed during the winter (mid-April to early November).
Tatsuhaku on the second floor, " Nakadomari Rockfish Sashimi and Simmered Fish " (commonly known as "Rockfish Set") and " Nakadomari Tomato Seafood Ramen " (commonly known as "Tomashen Ramen").

Nango Roadside Station (Nango, Hachinohe City: Prefectural Route 42)

This is the only roadside station in Aomori Prefecture that has hotel-like accommodation facilities with both Western-style and Japanese-style rooms
Nango is known as a producer of delicious soba noodles, and this roadside station is nicknamed The Village of Soba and Jazz
Since 1990, an outdoor jazz festival called the Nango Summer Jazz Festival has been held every year in late July, and the area has become a mecca for jazz in Aomori.
A jazz festival featuring performances by Japan's top musicians was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but was revived in 2023
