``Akita Prefectural Museum of Art'' is one of the facilities located within the premises of ``Area Nakaichi.'' This museum houses many works of art collected by merchant Masakichi Hirano over his lifetime. Masakichi Hirano himself created a foundation and opened an art museum with the wish of ``making young people rich people.'' Since its opening in 1962, the Akita Prefectural Museum of Art has provided art through many projects and collections.
In 2008, we opened in a new building as a facility in the Nakaichi area, which is across the street from the old address to the new address, Senshu Park. Area Nakaichi itself functions as a hub for art and cultural exchange. In addition to the Akita Prefectural Museum of Art, the premises overlooking Senshu Park also houses the Nigiwai Exchange Center AU, which has a multipurpose hall and art gallery, and is also a popular event venue in front of Akita Station.
The interior of the museum has a simple yet elaborate structure. As you enter through the entrance, the spiral staircase will catch your eye. Various exhibitions are held on the first floor under the spiral staircase, and on the second floor at the end of the stairs. The planning schedule is posted on the website, and people come from inside and outside the prefecture to see the planned events.
