What's more, Senshu Park is located across from the museum, so you can enjoy seasonal flowers and experience the castle ruins, a cultural asset. What's more, there are other useful tourist facilities around the museum

We would like to introduce you to the Akita Museum of Art, a must-visit place for tourists visiting Akita City, Akita Prefecture

Akita Museum of Art is a hub for Akita art

The Akita Museum of Art is one of the facilities located within the Area Nakaichi site. It houses a collection of artworks collected over the lifetime of merchant Hirano Masakichi. Hirano himself wished to "enrich young people," and he established the foundation and opened the museum himself. Since opening in 1967, the Akita Museum of Art has presented art through numerous projects and collections

In 2008, the building was renovated and opened as part of Area Nakaichi, located across from Senshu Park at its new address. Area Nakaichi itself functions as a base for art and cultural exchange. The site overlooking Senshu Park is home to the Akita Museum of Art, as well as the Nigiwai Exchange Center AU, which has a multipurpose hall and art gallery, making it a popular event venue in front of Akita Station

The museum is simple yet elaborately designed. As you enter the building, a spiral staircase catches your eye. Various exhibitions are held on the first floor below the staircase, and on the second floor at the top of the stairs. The exhibition schedule is posted on the website, and people from inside and outside the prefecture visit to see specific exhibitions

Some of the exhibits are free to the public, and some booths are free to enter. You might just want to drop by without checking the events

This is the museum lounge inside the art museum, which is free to enter. From the glass windows across the room, you can enjoy a leisurely view of Senshu Park (Kubota Castle ruins) across the street. The view itself is like a painting. You can order a coffee or something and sit on a sofa to relax and enjoy the view, or you can read art-related books available in the museum lounge. The cafe space also has folk crafts and posters of the exhibits, so you can enjoy shopping there too

Nakaichi area is rich in local flavors! It's also a great base for sightseeing

Within Area Nakaichi, there are shops selling local ingredients and restaurants serving Akita cuisine. The picture shows a restaurant serving Inaniwa udon, a specialty of Akita and one of Japan's three great udon noodles. It's a famous restaurant with a long history

There are restaurants where you can enjoy dishes made with Hinai Jidori chicken meat and eggs, as well as a famous Japanese restaurant loved in the prefecture that oversees the cuisine served on JAL domestic first class flights. You can do everything from choosing souvenirs to dining within Area Nakaichi, so you can use this as your base to stroll around Senshu Park, visit art museums, eat and shop in Area Nakaichi, and easily visit the shops in front of the station, all on foot

lastly

The Akita Museum of Art is close to Akita Station, and is surrounded by tourist attractions such as Senshu Park, so we recommend stopping by and enjoying the surrounding tourist spots. Nearby are Atorion, which has a wide selection of souvenirs, and Akita Citizens' Market, a market that could be called the kitchen of Akita Prefecture. All are within a few minutes' walk

A place where you can appreciate art, go shopping, and enjoy gourmet food, and also enjoy the view. That's the Akita Museum of Art. Of course, the frequently held special exhibitions are all worth seeing. Be sure to stop by
