Yagiyama Dobutsukoen Station on the Tozai Subway Line, which just opened in 2016.
This station, which is the western terminus of the Tozai Line, is the highest subway station in Japan!

As a new landmark in Sendai, it is interesting to come and see the scenery of Japan's highest subway station, but there is another reason why this station is recommended.

There are two major theme parks near Yagiyama Dobutsukoen Station that have been loved by Sendai residents for over 50 years!

Yagiyama Benny Land, where dreams come true!

This commercial song has become so famous that it is no exaggeration to call it the prefectural song of Miyagi Prefecture.
Yagiyama Benny Land is an amusement park known for the song that became famous nationwide after the parody song became the cheering song for the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles.

Yagiyama Benny Land is a long-established store that has been around for over 50 years.
This is one of the theme parks that represents Sendai, a city of one million people.

Recommended attraction is the roller coaster “Corkscrew”

As the name suggests, a corkscrew is attractive because of its upward-looking course.
The thrill of being thrown around by the multi-layered spiral course is very popular with both students and adults!

Bennyland is fun for all ages, from thrill fans to families, and another attraction you'll want to try out is the go-karts.

It's still too early to underestimate them and think, "Go-karts are everywhere!"
In fact, the Benny Land go-kart course was updated in 2006!
The long course, which has been moved to a new location and is now approximately 400m long, is surprisingly technical.

Not Yagiyama Zoological Park! ? Zoo Paradise Yagiyama!

There may still be a small number of Miyagi Prefecture residents who are immediately drawn to Zoo Paradise Yagiyama.
Even though I have lived in Miyagi Prefecture for many years, I am not familiar with this name.
Its former name is Yagiyama Zoological Park.
This name is familiar to Sendai residents!

Zoo Paradise Yagiyama is the new name of Yagiyama Zoological Park, for which Selco Home has acquired naming rights since April 2017.
It's a bit strange that even though the name has changed, the name of the nearest station is "Yagiyama Zoological Park Station"!

The recommended spot at Zoo Paradise Yagiyama is Fureai no Oka.

Renovated in 2017, "Fureai no Oka" is a facility where you can experience directly interacting with animals.
The attraction is that you can observe the habits of animals that you can't usually see at the zoo, such as feeding goats and rabbits, and free flight where you can watch birds take off up close!

Zoo Paradise Yagiyama has another recommended hidden spot.

In fact, Babe Ruth and Zoo Paradise Yagiyama had a surprising relationship.

The site of Zoo Paradise Yagiyama's African Garden was once a baseball field.
In 1934 (Showa 9), a friendly game between the All-Stars of the American Major League and All Japan was held, and one of the venues was this Yagiyama area.

Major League hero Babe Ruth hit his first home run in Japan at this stadium in Yagiyama.
To commemorate his accomplishments, a bronze statue of Babe Ruth was erected in 2002 at the site of the former Yagiyama Stadium.
