[Miyagi Prefecture] Introducing popular temples and shrines recommended for New Year's visit in Miyagi Prefecture for New Year 2025!

In Miyagi Prefecture, in addition to Osaki Hachimangu Shrine and Toshogu Shrine in Sendai City, there are many popular shrines in Miyagi Prefecture such as Takekoma Shrine, one of Japan's three major Inari shrines, and Shiogama Shrine, ``Mutsu Kuni Ichinomiya''.

From among these shrines, this article will introduce three shrines with unique origins and blessings that you should visit for your New Year's visit in 2025.

Atago Shrine (Taihaku Ward, Sendai City)

It was relocated when Date Masamune moved from Yonezawa to Mt. Iwade and then to Sendai, and is revered as the general guardian of Sendai (Sendai). It is enshrined on the top of Mt. Atago overlooking the Hirose River, and you can enjoy the night view of the city at night.

The main shrine and worship hall have been designated as tangible cultural properties by Sendai City, and are one of the sacred sites for worshiping the Kedagami deity, which enshrines Fugen Bosatsu, one of Sendai's guardian deities of the zodiac.

Since it protects the 2024 year of the Dragon and the 2025 year of the Snake among the zodiac signs, it is expected that many New Year's visitors will visit next year.

The grounds of Atago Shrine are connected to Daimanji Temple, which enshrines Kokuzo Bosatsu, the guardian deity of the ox and tiger years of the Sendai zodiac.

The deity enshrined here is Kagutsuchinokami, the god of fire, who is known for his fire prevention and protection benefits.

As a result of the syncretism of Shintoism and Buddhism in the past, the guardian deity is Fugen Bosatsu, who protects the direction of Tatsumi, and the shrine is visited by many worshipers as a sacred place for Sendai's Kantai-shin faith.

In addition, many gods such as Amaterasu Okami and Toyouke no Okami are enshrined here, so the blessings that can be bestowed are diverse.

Kachidoki Shrine that Rakuten Eagles fans should visit for New Year's visit

Kachidoki Shrine located within the shrine grounds , is enshrined with gods related to competition, such as the god of war, and as a god of sports, it is said to pray for victory, improve technique, and provide blessings for physical health.

For some reason, a towel supporting Ryosuke Tatsumi of the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles, a professional baseball team, is displayed at the shrine, making it a sacred place for Eagles fans, known only to those in the know.

Atago Shrine Tatsumi , and baseball players who want to pay homage to Golden Glove Award winner Tatsumi come to visit the shrine, even though their names are different.

In 989, Kokaji Munechika, a swordsmith in Kyoto, was hammering a sword for the Emperor, but it was said that he could not concentrate because of the loud cries of frogs around him.

The origin of the shrine is said to be that when a snake-shaped sword (Kinja) was thrown into the water, the frog was calmed down, and the Golden Snake was dedicated to the frog.

Tsuriishi Shrine (Ishinomaki City)

In the plaza beyond the torii gate lies a huge rock that is said to be a goddess, and on top of that is a round, 14-meter-wide rock that is said to be a male god, and is enshrined as if it had been fished out with a rope.

Tsuriishi Shrine because of its scenery , and this huge rock did not fall during the Miyagi Prefecture Offshore Earthquake in 1978 (Showa 53), and it became famous as ``the god of entrance exams that seems to fall but does not fall.''

Furthermore, during the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011 (Heisei 23), the shrine office and torii gate were washed away by the tsunami due to its proximity to the mouth of the Kitakami River, but the huge rock did not fall, and is now worshiped as the god of entrance exams.

The enshrined deity and blessings of Tsuriishi Shrine

The enshrined deity, Amenokoyane-no-Mikoto, is the deity who, when Amaterasu Omikami hid in a rock door, recited prayers and made the rock door open a little.

It is also said to be the god of wisdom and academic studies, so along with the giant rock that seems like it will fall, Tsuriishi Shrine is also known as a power spot for praying for success.

In mid-December, ``Yoshi Kadomatsu'' and ``Reed Rings'' made from reeds that grow on the banks of the Kitakami River are displayed, and if you pass through these, you will be considered to have ``passed the reeds,'' so it is a great first shrine visit for test takers. It's ahead.

Other benefits include family safety, physical health, marital harmony, childbearing, longevity, and traffic safety.
