You can arrive in about 3 minutes on foot from Sakamachi Shopping Street. Higashiya is a long-established soba restaurant famous as the birthplace of Wanko Soba in Morioka. In Katsuyori Iwate, there was a custom of serving soba at banquets. Morioka's Wanko Soba has its roots in this. Wanko soba was added to the menu of soba restaurants for the first time in the 1950s.

That's exactly why three stores in Morioka, including Higashiya, have teamed up and put this on the menu with the aim of revitalizing the town. Among them, Higashiya is a representative of the long-established stores that started Wanko Soba. Its history is quite old. It was founded in 1907 (Meiji 40) as a branch of Morioka's famous Japanese restaurant "Oshimizu Taga."

The year after its founding, the name was taken from the name of the first owner, Tokichi Doi, and the name became ``Higashiya''. Higashiya has now established itself as a long-established store. However, it has not always been smooth sailing. In the early Showa era, there was an accident where a store was completely destroyed by fire. We were able to overcome this crisis thanks to the generous support of the Taga Group.

The current main store is made entirely of cypress. This is still being rebuilt after it was completely destroyed by fire. The soba and soup stock created by artisans who are well-versed in the field are truly exceptional. The service is also conscientious, which makes Wanko Soba even more delicious. However, Wanko Soba is not the only thing loved by the citizens of Morioka. Katsudon is also a menu that has many fans. The katsudon comes with a small bowl of soba. It is also attractive that the set is reasonably priced at 945 yen.

In the summer, a particularly popular menu item is ``Salad Soba'' (882 yen). This is a limited time menu until August. This menu also has a long history. It has been a summer staple for Morioka residents and has been repeated for over 30 years. Soba noodles that are soaked in cold water are delicious. The soba noodles are topped with myoga, chicken, cucumber, and radish. Since you can eat plenty of vegetables, it is also effective in preventing summer fatigue.
