Tsuruoka's world-class dream aquarium

It boasts the largest variety of jellyfish exhibits in the world, and also holds gull-feeding shows.
In the Cranetarium, a jellyfish exhibition room, you can see jellyfish swimming swaying in the dim darkness, and their tentacles move in mysterious ways, creating a beautiful and fantastical world.

At one point, the number of visitors decreased sharply and the museum was in danger of closing, but around 1999, when it began a full-fledged jellyfish exhibit, it became popular and the number of visitors increased.
In recent years, tourists have been visiting at a faster pace than usual, exceeding 220,000 people, the highest number ever, and setting a record for the highest number of tourists in a year.

In 2001, there were 12 types of exhibits, making it the number one in Japan, and in 2005, after increasing the number of animals kept and exhibits and creating a specialized exhibition room called a "cranetarium," it became the number one exhibit in the world. Masu.
Also popular is the green-glowing Aequore jellyfish, which became famous after Osamu Shimomura won the Nobel Prize in 2008.
In November of the same year, with the advice of Osamu Shimomura, we conducted a public experiment and succeeded in making the Aequore jellyfish glow green.
Normally, jellyfish in aquariums rarely emit light, so they are very rare, and this is the first time this has happened in Japan.

At the restaurant inside the aquarium, you can also enjoy various dishes made with jellyfish.
Kamo Aquarium is famous for its jellyfish ice cream, and is truly a unique aquarium full of jellyfish.

In 2014, ahead of its 50th anniversary, Kamo Aquarium underwent major renovations, relocated to a newly constructed facility, and resumed operations for the first time in six months on June 1 of the same year.
The new aquarium, which has been reborn as the ``Jellyfish Dream Hall,'' has expanded its exhibition space by 1.6 times, allowing you to see many fish and 50 different types of jellyfish up close.
The highlight after the renovation is a 5-meter diameter aquarium filled with 2,000 dancing jellyfish, and visitors are immersed in a fantastical world in front of the aquarium.
