[Soma City, Fukushima Prefecture] Enjoy spring! Enjoy strawberry picking at Wada Kanko Strawberry Farm
table of contents
From January to May, strawberries are in season, and supermarkets are filled with them.
This time, we'll share our experience of strawberry picking at "Wada Kanko Strawberry Farm" in Soma City, Fukushima Prefecture.
The greenhouses were lined with sweet, large strawberries! How many did we manage to eat?
In addition to strawberry picking, we'll also tell you about the other attractions of Wada Kanko Strawberry Farm, such as its direct sales store and barbecue facilities.
Strawberries grown in a warm climate

What kind of city is Soma?
Soma City, where Wada Tourist Strawberry Farm is located, is situated in the northern part of the Hamadori region of Fukushima Prefecture, facing the Pacific Ocean.
During the Edo period, Soma City flourished as a castle town of the Soma Domain, and even today, many historical buildings and ruins remain. In the summer, it is a popular tourist destination that attracts many visitors for swimming at the beach.
Soma City has little variation in temperature throughout the year, and it doesn't snow much in winter, so the strawberries grow well and are sweet.
Wada Tourism Strawberry Farm (Wada Tourism Strawberry Association)
Wada Kanko Strawberry Farm is located near Matsukawaura, the only lagoon in Fukushima Prefecture and one of the 100 most scenic spots in Japan
Strawberry picking is 30 minutes of all-you-can-eat and includes milk.
Pay the fee at the reception and receive your ticket. The ticket will have the number of the strawberry farm where you will pick strawberries, so go to the farm and hand over your ticket.
Once you receive your milk, your 30 minutes of all-you-can-eat strawberries begins!
Enjoy Sachinoka nonstop for 30 minutes

I visited Wada Tourist Strawberry Farm in early February.
The variety of strawberries I ate in the all-you-can-eat option was "Sachinoka."
Sachinoka is a variety with a good balance of sweet and sour flavors. It also contains about 80mg of vitamin C per 100g, which is higher than other strawberries, making it a nutritionally beneficial variety
The Sachinoka strawberries in the greenhouse were bigger and more impressive than the ones you see in supermarkets! They weren't too sour, so I was able to keep eating them for 30 minutes without getting bored
Enjoy a variety of varieties depending on the season
The varieties of strawberries available for all-you-can-eat vary depending on the season.
The varieties of strawberries you can enjoy at Wada Tourist Strawberry Farm are as follows:
- Akihime (January to April)
- Yayoihime (February to May)
- Tochiotome (February to May)
- Sachinoka
- Fukuharuka
- Kaorino
Depending on the time of year you visit, you can enjoy a variety of varieties!
Free refills of milk
Upon entering the greenhouse, you're given a cup to put the stems in.
The milk for dipping the strawberries is refillable. The children kept eating, getting refills two or three times.
How much can you eat in a 30-minute all-you-can-eat buffet?
We counted how many we could eat in 30 minutes, and my 5th-grade son managed an incredible 70!
This time, our family of five, including a preschooler, visited, and everyone ate over 40 and was very satisfied! The
strawberries were so fresh and juicy because they were picked right after we got there. You can eat them with milk, so you won't get tired of them until the very last bite.
How to identify delicious strawberries

Apparently, fully ripened strawberries have small, tingly cracks near the stem.
Choose strawberries that are a vibrant red color and have a glossy surface.
It is said that sweet and fruity scents are the most delicious, so be sure to check out the scent
The taste also varies depending on the size. Large strawberries tend to be sweeter, while small strawberries tend to be more sour. Try them out and find the size that you like best
When eating strawberries, remove the stem and eat from the end where the stem was attached so that you can enjoy the sweetness and deliciousness until the very end. The tip of the fruit stores more sugar, making it sweeter
