Strawberry season is from January to May.
There will be a lot of strawberries lined up at the supermarket. This time, I would like to tell you about my experience picking strawberries at Wada Kanko Strawberry Farm in Soma City, Fukushima Prefecture.
The house is full of sweet and large strawberries!
How many were you able to eat? In addition to strawberry picking, we will introduce you to the charms of Wada Kanko Strawberry Farm, where you can enjoy a direct sales shop and barbecue.

Strawberries grown in a warm climate

What kind of city is Soma City?

Soma City, where Wada Kanko Strawberry Farm is located, is located in the northern part of Hamadori, Fukushima Prefecture, facing the Pacific Ocean.
Soma City prospered as a castle town of the Soma Domain during the Edo period, and even today many historic buildings and ruins remain.
In the summer, it is a popular tourist destination where many tourists come to swim in the sea. In Soma City, there is little difference in temperature throughout the year, and there is not much snow in winter, so the strawberries grow well and are sweet.

Enjoy Sachinoka non-stop for 30 minutes

The author visited Wada Kanko Strawberry Farm in early February.
The variety of strawberries I ate during the all-you-can-eat meal was "Sachinoka."

Sachinoka is a variety with a good balance of sweet and acid. The content of vitamin C is about 80mg per 100g, which is higher than other strawberries, and it has nutritional benefits.

The Sachinoka that grew in the greenhouse were bigger and better than the strawberries lined up in the supermarket! It's low in acidity, so I could keep eating it for 30 minutes without getting bored.

You can enjoy various varieties depending on the season.

The varieties of strawberries available for all-you-can-eat will vary depending on the season.
The varieties of strawberries that you can enjoy at Wada Kanko Strawberry Farm are as follows.

  • Akihime (January to April)
  • Yayoi Hime (February to May)
  • Tochiotome (February to May)
  • Sachinoka
  • Fukuharuka
  • Kaorino

You can enjoy different varieties depending on the time of year you visit!

Free refills of milk

When you enter the house, you will be given a cup to put the stem in.
Feel free to refill the milk on your strawberries. The children kept eating, refilling twice or even three times.

How much can you eat in 30 minutes of all-you-can-eat?

When I counted how much I could eat in 30 minutes, my son, who is in the fifth grade of elementary school, came up with a whopping 70!
This time I visited with my family of 5, including preschoolers, and we all ate over 40 pieces and were very satisfied!
The strawberries are freshly picked, so they are very juicy. You can eat it with milk, so you can eat it till the end without getting bored.

How to identify delicious strawberries

It seems that fully ripened strawberries have a tingling crack at the end of the stem.
Choose strawberries that are bright red in color and have a glossy surface.

Those with a sweet and fruity aroma are said to be delicious. Be sure to check out the scent as well.

The taste also differs depending on the size. Large strawberries tend to be sweeter, while smaller strawberries tend to be more sour. Please find the size you like and try it.

When eating strawberries, remove the stem and eat from the side with the stem attached, so that it stays sweet and delicious until the end. More sugar is stored at the tip, making it sweeter.
