[Soma City, Fukushima Prefecture] Enjoy spring! Enjoy strawberry picking at Wada Kanko Strawberry Farm
table of contents
Strawberry season is from January to May, and you'll see a huge selection of strawberries lined up in supermarkets.
This time, we'll share our strawberry picking experience at Wada Kanko Strawberry Farm in Soma City, Fukushima Prefecture.
The greenhouse was filled with rows of sweet, large strawberries! How many could we eat?
We'll share the charms of Wada Kanko Strawberry Farm, where you can enjoy not only strawberry picking but also a direct sales shop and barbecues.
Strawberries grown in a warm climate

What kind of city is Soma?
Soma City, where Wada Kanko Strawberry Farm is located, is located in the northern part of Hamadori, Fukushima Prefecture, facing the Pacific Ocean.
During the Edo period, Soma City flourished as the castle town of the Soma Domain, and even today many historical buildings and ruins remain. In the summer, it is a popular tourist destination with many tourists visiting to swim in the sea.
Soma City has little temperature difference throughout the year and little snow in the winter, which allows strawberries to grow well and produce sweet strawberries.
Wada Tourism Strawberry Farm (Wada Tourism Strawberry Association)
Wada Kanko Strawberry Farm is located near Matsukawaura, the only lagoon in Fukushima Prefecture and one of the 100 most scenic spots in Japan
Strawberry picking is all-you-can-eat for 30 minutes and includes milk.
Pay the fee at the reception and receive a ticket. The ticket has the number of the house where you will be picking strawberries written on it, so go to each house and hand over your ticket.
Once you receive the milk, your 30-minute all-you-can-eat session begins!
Enjoy Sachinoka nonstop for 30 minutes

I visited Wada Kanko Strawberry Farm in early February.
The strawberry variety I tried at the all-you-can-eat buffet was "Sachinoka."
Sachinoka is a variety with a good balance of sweet and sour flavors. It also contains about 80mg of vitamin C per 100g, which is higher than other strawberries, making it a nutritionally beneficial variety
The Sachinoka strawberries in the greenhouse were bigger and more impressive than the ones you see in supermarkets! They weren't too sour, so I was able to keep eating them for 30 minutes without getting bored
Enjoy a variety of varieties depending on the season
The varieties of strawberries available for all-you-can-eat vary depending on the season.
The varieties of strawberries you can enjoy at Wada Kanko Strawberry Farm are as follows:
- Akihime (January to April)
- Yayoihime (February to May)
- Tochiotome (February to May)
- Sachinoka
- Fukuharuka
- Kaorino
Depending on the time of year you visit, you can enjoy a variety of varieties!
Free refills of milk
When you enter the greenhouse, you are given a cup to put the stems in.
You can have as much milk as you like to dip the strawberries in. The children kept eating, having second or third refills.
How much can you eat in a 30-minute all-you-can-eat buffet?
We counted how many we could eat in 30 minutes, and my son, a fifth-grader, managed to eat a whopping 70!
This time, we visited as a family of five, including a preschooler, and everyone ate over 40 and was very satisfied! The strawberries
were freshly picked, so they were very juicy. You can eat them with milk, so you won't get bored of eating them until the very end.
How to identify delicious strawberries

Fully ripe strawberries have a cracked, sharp edge near the stem.
Choose strawberries that are bright red in color and have a shiny surface.
It is said that sweet and fruity scents are the most delicious, so be sure to check out the scent
The taste also varies depending on the size. Large strawberries tend to be sweeter, while small strawberries tend to be more sour. Try them out and find the size that you like best
When eating strawberries, remove the stem and eat from the end where the stem was attached so that you can enjoy the sweetness and deliciousness until the very end. The tip of the fruit stores more sugar, making it sweeter
