"Yohanekei" in Ichinoseki City, where even neighbors even have strangers [Iwate Prefecture]

Geibikei is a valley about 2km wide in the middle Sutetsu River, located in Higashiyamacho, Ichinoseki City, Iwate Prefecture, and was a hidden area that even those who lived nearby were known to have known before the Meiji period.

In 1925 it was designated as a national "Historical Site Natural Monument" and in 1927 it was also selected as one of the "100 Scenic Sightseeing in Japan."

The name "Ribane Grey" was named by local volunteers, including Sato Keigan, a man who devoted his personal wealth to developing this area, and the name comes from the "Lion" that protrudes from the large quay towering on the opposite shore of Sukkatsu

The boat ride, a specialty of Yihane Grey, is a 90-minute journey where the boatman controls the boat with a single pole, introducing the valley landscape and local legends. You can enjoy the beauty of each season, including wisteria flowers in spring, fresh greenery in summer, autumn leaves, and snowy scenery in winter. During the boat ride, the boatman performs a folk song called "Ryuhana Oiwake," and the singing voice echoes through the valley.

Strange rocks and famous places

The valley is dotted with rocks with distinctive names and shapes, such as "Orihanawa," "Kagamiakiiwa," "Shishigahana," and "Kishikakuwa." In particular, "Shishigahana" is shaped like a lion's nose, and is the origin of the name of the Yohanakei.

Six limestone caves and scenery of the four seasons

There are six limestone caves on the right bank, and Bishamon Caves boast a 5m wide and 30m deep. Bishamonten is enshrined in the cave, giving it a mysterious atmosphere.

Not only is the autumn leaves season when the trees change color, but the snow season with a landscape-like atmosphere, the fresh green season, and the scenery of all four seasons is picturesque, but the spring with purple wisteria flowers blooming on the cliffs is the best highlight. A number of colorful clusters of wisteria hang down on the wisteria rock along the clear stream, and wisteria trellis are set up along the way to Yuhana Rock.

In addition to the seasonal scenery, tea ceremony boats appear in the spring and autumn seasons, allowing you to enjoy an elegant tea ceremony on the boat. In winter, you can become a kotatsu boat, and enjoy the snow view while enjoying the warm boat with hot pots and kettles.

At the turn of the boat, it is also a specialty that throws a ball called unjagged ball Lucky balls are available on sale with seven different letters: lucky, green, sumo, love, wish, luck, and loyalty. It is said that if you choose a lucky ball with your favorite letters and throw it, and if the lucky ball enters the hollow of the rock, your wish will come true.

In Ichinoseki City, Iwate Prefecture, Genbikei , and many tourists visit it along with this area.
