Cherry blossoms at Katsuoka Park

The location in full bloom changes depending on the season! ? I went to the cherry blossom festival at Katsuoka Park!

Katsuoka Park Cherry Blossom Festival

About 20 minutes walk from the east exit of JR Sendai Station.
Approximately 3 minutes walk from Kosugaoka Station on the JR Senseki Line. There you will find Sendai City's representative cherry blossom viewing spot, Katsuraoka Park, which can be enjoyed by everyone from families to office workers.
This time, I will report on the cherry blossom viewing at Tsutsuka Park!

What are the highlights of the cherry blossoms in Tsutsuoka Park?

Cherry blossoms at Katsuoka Park

The best thing about cherry blossom viewing at Katsuoka Park is the length of the cherry blossom viewing season.

Hitome Senbonzakura in Okawara Town, a famous cherry blossom viewing spot in Miyagi Prefecture, is characterized by rows of cherry blossom trees as far as the eye can see.
The varieties include Someiyoshino, Shiroyamazakura, Yaezakura, and Sendaiyoshino, and they are in full bloom around mid-April.
From then on, Sendai will experience a period of strong winds, so you will only be able to fully appreciate it for about a week.

On the other hand, the cherry blossoms at Katsuoka Park include major cherry blossoms such as Somei Yoshino and Edohigan, but the main ones are weeping cherry trees such as Yaebenishidare and Weeping Cherry.
This weeping cherry tree blooms about a week earlier than the Somei Yoshino and Edohigan, so you can enjoy cherry blossom viewing from early April, when the weeping cherry trees bloom, to late April, when the Somei Yoshino trees fall.

Furthermore, there are many lanterns hanging in the park, which are brightly lit until 9pm, making it perfect for viewing the cherry blossoms at night.
Although the cherry blossoms are not illuminated with bright lights, viewing the cherry blossoms at night under natural light is the perfect environment to rediscover their original charm.
There are also stalls open, so it's a good idea to have a drink and have fun with your friends!

An assault report on the cherry blossom festival! However, there is no parking lot!

Well, this time, I also took my car out with the intention of reporting on my experience at the Cherry Blossom Festival!
Make rice balls and get ready!
I leave home at 9am!

However, I was surprised when I arrived!
There is no parking lot at all! No, there are parking lots, but everywhere is full!
There is no place to park!

Of course, that day was the day when the Rakuten vs. Softbank card was being held at Kobo Star Miyagi.
The parking lot, which was already insufficient, was even more fully occupied.
I was underestimating the parking lot situation in Sendai!

I finally found a parking lot near Nukutake Station, which is 3 stations away on the JR Senseki Line.

JR Kutake StationParking fees are too high in front of Sendai Station, so this arrangement is unavoidable.
It was too far to walk, so we decided to take the train.

Weeping cherry and Somei Yoshino are zoned! ? Change your seating location depending on the season!

When we finally arrived at the park, the cherry blossom festival was in full swing.
While Sendai's famous sparrow dance parades through the park, we spread out sheets under the weeping cherry trees and begin cherry blossom viewing.
By mid-April, the weeping cherry blossoms had just begun to fall, but there were still about 8 minutes left, so I was able to enjoy the cherry blossoms to their fullest.

The cherry blossom festival

The zone where stalls are open in Tsutsumioka Park is mainly for weeping cherry trees, so many people were excited to see the cherry blossoms as they started to fall, but if you want to fully enjoy the cherry blossoms at that time of year, you should choose the outer route. It would be best to take a seat nearby.

This is because the Someiyoshino cherry trees bloom like a tunnel around the outer perimeter of Katsuoka Park.

Cherry blossoms blooming like a tunnel

It is no exaggeration to say that the north side in particular is a little-known spot with few people.
It's a good idea to remember that from early to mid-April, it's near the opening of the store, and from mid-April to late April, it's the outer course north!

What I thought after going there! Tips for parking and finding a place!

There are two main things that struck me when I went to the Cherry Blossom Festival.

  • I don't think there is a parking lot
  • Change your location depending on the season

There is no place to park unless you leave very early in the morning.
Please be quiet and park in front of Sendai Station, or look forward to a parking lot near the station at the end of the Senseki Line.
Also, it seems that there are zones for each type of cherry blossoms, so you can enjoy it to the fullest by changing your location depending on the time of year you participate!
