[Miyagi] Matsushima gourmet food is all about oysters! A charming restaurant where you can eat for just 1,000 yen
table of contents
Matsushima oysters are in season every year from October to March. They are renowned for their plump yet firm texture and high nutritional value, thanks to the abundant minerals carried by the rivers flowing into Matsushima Bay.
Matsushima, one of Miyagi Prefecture's leading tourist destinations, boasts numerous restaurants where you can enjoy delicious oysters.
I'm really curious to know how they're prepared!
Matsushima Fish Market "Matsushima Oyster Burger"
Matsushima Fish Market, proud of its fresh, locally sourced seafood and delicacies, also has a restaurant.
Its signature item is the "Matsushima Oyster Burger," featuring Matsushima oysters and a béchamel sauce croquette. You're sure to enjoy the crispy, creamy croquette.
The buns are also special, made with rice flour from Miyagi Prefecture.
Despite its generous size, it's a surprisingly reasonable 350 yen.

Pensee Matsushima store's "Oyster Curry Bread"
For those who want to casually enjoy oysters while walking, we recommend "Pensee Matsushima" on the first floor of Matsushima Tamatebakokan. Here, you can eat "Oyster Curry Bread" filled with a whole Sanriku oyster. There are other stores, but this is the only place where you can eat "Oyster Curry Bread"!
You can casually enjoy oysters for just 300 yen, so there is often a line
Curry and oysters go surprisingly well together, and you'll finish the dish in no time
Zunda melon bread, filled with Sendai's specialty zunda bean paste, is also popular

Minami stable "Namakaki"
Minamibeya, located near Godaido, is a restaurant that is open from 9am to 3pm. It used to be an eel restaurant, and you can still order unaju (rice bowls) here
The popular menu item here is the "Nama Kaki" (raw oysters), which contains four raw oysters in their shells. You'll be enchanted by the large oysters. Enjoy them with ponzu sauce or cocktail sauce, depending on your preference
You can order it all year round, but in the winter we serve oysters from Matsushima
Four raw oysters cost 1,000 yen, but you can also get three for 750 yen

Gozainya "Oyster Pudding"
Now that you're full, how about a unique dessert? Located on the second floor of the Matsushima Kamaboko Honpo main store, which offers views of Godaido Temple and Matsushima Bay, is the restaurant "Gozain-ya." While their winter-only oyster hot pot is popular, their "Oyster Pudding" is equally famous.
Made with pureed oysters from Okumatsushima, fresh cream, and white wine, this steamed pudding has an elegant, sophisticated taste. Its creamy color is also cute. At just 210 yen, you'll want to buy several!
